Um, Daniel, Jesus told them to buy a sword so the prophecy would be fulfilled, not so they could fight like the rest of humanity. If you follow the story a bit further, you’ll find that after Peter cut off Malchus’ ear, Jesus rebuked him with “Put your sword away! Shall I not drink the cup the Father has given me?” (John 18:10-11).

Please I come from New York and we were proud of our rebel history from the Revolution war so I see no problem with those in South Carolina being proud of their rebel history. The North sure made a hash of things after that victory with their greed for power. The flag is indeed a local concern and can be solved by those who are more concerned about it. On that point Huckabee and Thompson agree. Huckabee is more vocal about it because he is actually trying to win the primary unlike Mitt and others.

I am kinda tired of people thinking preached Pacifism in all forms. This is why this “Would Jesus run for Office?” “Would Jesus get involved in Iraq?” Guess what, that was not Jesus’s role, Jesus assigned us a different role than his own.

Then Jesus asked them, “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” “Nothing,” they answered. He said to them, “But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. It is written: `And he was numbered with the transgressors’ ; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment.” The disciples said, “See, Lord, here are two swords.” “That is enough,” he replied. (Luke 22:35-38, NIV)

Jesus told his disciples to buy a sword….I mean come on..he knew that they weren’t going to use the sword to butter their toast with.
