No Free Speech even for a Pope

It appears that Italian universities are just as intolerant as American ones:

“Pope Benedict XVI on Tuesday abruptly called off plans to speak at Rome’s prestigious La Sapienza university, after students and professors rallied to proclaim him pontiff non grata.

More than 60 professors signed a letter to the public school’s rector saying the pope’s appearance, which had been scheduled for the opening of the academic year Thursday, was an affront to people of science and to the “secular” nature of the institution.

Students staged a sit-in Tuesday, waving banners scrawled with angry slogans (“Knowledge needs neither fathers nor priests”) and launching what they dubbed “anti-cleric week.”

In short – The Pope was invited to speak at La Sappienza University in Rome by the Rector, a number of academics and students didn’t feel comfortable with the invitation based on Rattzingers past actions and expressed these views. In a free nation or democracy I think this is called free speech is it not??

The Pope decided not to attend and let’s be clear here the invitation was never retracted. This was his choice and his right.

To feign that he was somehow stopped from the right to speak is the writer’s transparently dishonest manipulation of an event. In short a blatantly cowardly and deceitful attempt at punishing or intimidating critics of the pope.

roberto apparently believes that speaking LIES about the Catholic Church- and the Pontiff- are just Dandy.

Did I mention that a great many scientists were and are Catholics? And that a Catholic Priest / scientist developed the Big Bang Theory?

Typical Leftist slime from Roberto: The Pope just “chose” not to go
