I am not fond of Reagan as his policies sold us out to foreign countries by running the federal deficit out of sight. Even Democrats like Carter. His trickle down theory has failed miserably. His victory against Russia has resulted in communist countries like China becommming stronger and Russia is still a thorn in our side. Should I go on as there is little good I can say about him. Bush has acted a lot like him. What we need is a President that will control our excessive desire to speend more money than we have. I doubt Fred Thompson is that mann Duncan Hunter was a better option but he is unable to garner the support he needs to become President.

JonJayRay,

I am actually quite informed and I see the benefits of populism so I know how foolish your claim is. Like most people i judge the economy of effects on me and not on what biased pundit says. That has been the way of the U.S, from pretty much its foundings and is why our political spectrum is divided along economical lines even more than social values. You happen to favor the Federalist view while I favor the more conservative side of the Democrat-Republican party.

what Romney says now sounds good but I just can't trust him says Jay.
You never trust any politician, you just support them and hope for the best.
In the long run that is all you will get even from the best of them.
This is not being cynical, it is just the findings of an old man who has been a political junkie longer than most of you reading this have been alive.
Every now and then someone will come along who really does have character and makes ever effort to be faithful to their convictions. But before you know it they have either flip flopped or have been turned out of office by those gutless voters who don't want consistency but favoritism.

Populism is where a candidate will say anything to anyone to make himself appealing to the illiterate voter.

Populism means "appealing to popular ignorance"

But one man's ignorance may be another man's wisdom

From what I have heard being a populist merely means your apeal is to the middle income Repubicans and not the higher income ones. Being a populist does not make you a liberal despite your claims to the contrary or Republicans would never win an election. From what I have heard Huckabee was able to put Arkansas in the black financially which is the mark of a true economical conservative. I am a bit tired of those Republicans that scream about taxation but have no problem spending money they do not have. What they do instead is sell the U.S, to foreign countries like Saudi Arabia and China. Enough is enough. Cut the spending and the taxes will fall but so will the benefits of being an American.
