Fred Thompson- Substance

Cross-posted from Right on the Right
Early this morning, I wrote a post that simply included the video of Fred Thompson’s new television ad, Substance. Today, I’m proud to be part of a massive movement for the one true Conservative in the race, Fred Thompson. First off, in case you missed the ad, Substance:

The red pick-up truck is back on the campaign trail in Iowa, and Fred needs to raise about a quarter of a million dollars to have the ad above played throughout Iowa. He could really use your help. If you haven’t donated to Fred this election cycle, now is the time, and Iowa is the place. He needs to win. Today, a blogburst is occurring because the blogosphere realizes it’s crunch time in Iowa.
Rick Moran from Right Wing Nut House led the charge on the blogburst, and his post is brilliant and articulate as usual. Here are some of Rick’s powerful words:
The fate of American independence rested with those 400 hardy souls who manned the oars that blustery night. And herein lies the reason for my little historical digression and an illustration of why, if you support Fred Thompson for President, this is the time to get the hell off the sidelines and start rowing the damn boat.
To be brutally frank in appraising the situation realistically, Fred Thompson’s chances of winning the nomination are not good. I will not attempt to snow you, gentle readers, with the idea that the Thompson campaign is anything but a hope and a prayer at this point. But where there is a will to fight, so there is a will to win. It doesn’t matter how many pundits, pollsters, and assorted “experts†have written off Fred Thompson. What matters is that there is still a chance, still life in the campaign, and still a belief that the race can be won. Your support is absolutely crucial to propel the campaign forward, to build on the momentum generated by Thompson’s bus tour through Iowa by giving as much as you possibly can.
Unfortunately, I have to agree with Rick that Fred is still a long-shot, but long-shots can win, especially when they practice true and honest Conservatism. As I’ve said before, don’t overlook Thompson on grounds of support. It’s way too early in the process to do as Tancredo did and back another horse just to beat Huckabee.
According to Faultline USA, the media hates Fred because of his electability and his Conservative appeal. I have to say, they should be afraid. Fred doesn’t give in to media traps like hand shows. The words from Faultline:
Why Fred?
It’s pretty obvious if you’re a MSM newshound like me that they are all icing out Fred – even good ol Fox seems to ignore Fred. Instead of buying into the left-leaning media ice storm, most conservatives should be asking themselves why? The answer is quite simple. The liberal MSM is deathly afraid that Thompson would beat any Democratic candidate no matter which one eventually gets the nomination. And as for “fair and balanced†Fox, they appear to be in another “conservative†candidate’s bed!
The Rudy and Huckabee media storms, which occurred throughout the summer and the last month or so respectively, were sickening to watch. I can only be hopeful that Fred will make a similar showing in the polls in the coming week and get that last minute media push. As for Fred’s ad push, he’s up to $80,000 as of me writing this post, so he’s off to a good start. Hopefully some STACLU readers will choose to chip in.
Bob Krumm is also weighing in today, as all kinds of Conservatives around the country come out to support Fred. He makes that point, and talks about the three legs of Conservatism and how Fred can bring them all together, without reservation:
We Republicans are a coalition of those who support strong national defense, smaller federal government, and traditional socially conservative values. Each one of the three legs of the stool, as Reagan used to call them, is no more important than the others. Even though I am a national defense conservative first, I recognize that unless my candidate also appeals to the other two wings of the coalition, he will lose. The same is true for social and fiscal conservative firsters. Republicans must nominate a candidate who who can bring the whole big tent with him, or the Democrats will tear us apart from ourselves next November.
Fred Thompson is the only such candidate. Rudy Giuliani is a great national defense candidate, but some pro-life and pro-gun Republicans will sit on their hands next November instead of raising them in support. Mike Huckabee has unparalleled social conservative credentials, but small government conservatives will desert him in droves. McCain and Romney each bring their own baggage. McCain’s is that he burnt a lot of bridges with Republicans over the last eight years, and Romney’s is that his candidacy today doesn’t support the same beliefs that he had when he was a candidate in Massachusetts for the last dozen years.
Mitt Romney is probably my fallback, and he’s probably the fallback of many Fred supporters. He’s been running a three-legged stool type campaign, and has actually brought a stool as a prop. The difference between him and Fred however, is that Fred’s three legs are tested, confirmed, and strong. Here’s another look at the Crunch Time ad:

I’ll be blogging more about Fred today, and I’ll probably have some more round-ups of the Fredmentum building in the blogosphere today. It’s not too late to fight, and to use Rick Moran’s historic reference, we need to pick up the damn oars and row the boats.

Fred who?
I just sent Fred’s campaign $100.00 and like many of you I’m retired and don’t need to give my money away.
If not now, when? If not us, who?
Let’s make this thing a fight. It’s only our future.
fred thompson is very electable because he is real and he has the appropriate messages for the initiation of the salvation of our republic we need the fresh air of the barry goldwater ethic again.
That pitch the “one true conservative” is equivalent to the “trust me” pitch by a used car sales man. When someone starts making it then you should be extra careful to examine their product and even then you will probably be burned. I tell that to Ron Paul supporters also.
I am way more conservative that Mr. Thompson on social issues. My stance on economic issues tends to be more slightly more liberal ie. moderate.
In addition to money, the most effective thing any Fred supporter can do is to help phone Iowans.
The phone calls might do more to support anyone who might be wavering…someone who wants to support Fred but feels like their support would be wasted.
Not that many Iowans show up for the caucuses, especially on a cold January night, so each person who is contacted can make a BIG difference.
I saw a youtube thing by Fred Thompson. That guy is so far right as to be ridiculous. He is totally polarized and would only be governing at most one half of the people if he by chance got elected. He totally demonized the Democrats in much the way Bush has, a method that has left the country totally split.
