Is the MSM Being Forced to Take Huckabee to Task?
In the past few days I’ve been postulating that the MSM has been giving Mike Huckabee a “free-pass” in order to give Hillary et al an easier target in the general election. A sort of planned manipulation of the news in order to orchestrate a Huckabee nomination so that he becomes the George McGovern of the 2008 race. News headlines as of yesterday AND TODAY on The Drudge Report suggest that this is the case; but My Way News, an Associated Press affiliated blog, has a post up about Huck’s 1992 statements that might be putting this concerted effort by the MSM and the DNC in jeopardy.
The headline reads:
Huckabee’s 1992 Words Get New Attention
Personally I don’t think that the AP seriously wants to focus any attention on Mike Huckabee before the traditional 6 week bombshell prior to the general election. The DNC has their perferred opponent in their sights and all it would take is for the MSM and their candidates to stick to the program and give Huckabee a “free-pass”. But that is not happening. Why? Internet bloggers on both sides of the political spectrum.
Liberal bloggers are tearing him up. Conservative bloggers are likewise tearing him up. The question is why.
Liberal bloggers are all about belittling ANYONE on the right side of the political spectrum. Conservative bloggers are actively involved in the political process.
The focus should be on who can beat Hillary without bastardizing the party platform. Rudy is Hillary in a suit and we all know it. Romney and McCain “flip-flop” so much on issues that it is like a replay of the 2004 race – another couple of John Kerrys playing fish in the bottom of the boat. Hunter and Tancredo are limited in their issues and struggling to share less than 1% of the electorate. Ron Paul – give me a break – the man is insane. Mike Huckabee is a dangerous individual. He raised taxes in Arkansas more than Bill Clinton did as governor. ANYONE who advocates higher taxes is not worthy of the nomination of the Republican party.
But the focus has been this past week on who should gain the nomination of the Republican party based on media attention.
Huck has not only been given a “free-pass” by the main stream media, he enjoyed favorable press from them for a few weeks. Press that translated into positive numbers in the polls. Sure the endorsements of Evangelical Christians helped propel him into the lead but they did not do it alone. It was the favorable press that put him there. And that got some of us who are used to seeing the liberal bia in the media slant the picture the other way to wonder… why? Yesterday we got our answer.
But now since The Drudge Report reported that the DNC was actively involved in a plot to manipulate the Republican nomination through their allies in the MSM so that Hillary and Co. would have an easy target in November, it is all making sense. And due in no small part to political bloggers of both ideologies calling Mike Huckabee to task on his past and current statements, the MSM is now being forced to pay attention to him. However they are doing so reluctantly.
The U.S. shouldn’t try to kill Saddam Hussein in Iraq, Mike Huckabee declared when he first ran for office. No women in combat anywhere. No gays in the military. No contributions in politics to candidates more than a year before an election.
His statements are among 229 answers Huckabee offered as a 36-year-old Texarkana pastor during his first run for political office in 1992. In that unsuccessful race against Sen. Dale Bumpers, Huckabee offered himself as a social conservative and listed “moral decay” as one of the top problems facing the country.
Now that he’s a front-runner for the Republican presidential nomination, he’s being asked anew about some of the views and comments he expressed in the survey by The Associated Press. Over the weekend, he said he wouldn’t retract answers in which he advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, opposed increased funding for finding a cure and said homosexuality could pose a public health risk – though he said today he might phrase his answers “a little differently.” SOURCE
I’m sure Howard Dean and the Hillary camp are having kittens that Mike Huckabee is being called to task by the AP. They didn’t want this to hit until AFTER the conventions.
We must keep up the pressure on the MSM. We must be asking the questions why they do what they do or don’t do. There had to be a reason why Huckabee gained such good press and no bad press for weeks. Now we know.

I’m sorry friend, but you’d have to give me at least three examples before I’d begin to believe that MSM “positive press” has propelled Huckabee.
What positive press?
I sadly agree that Hunter is struggling, but I believe that has more to do with the press ignoring the true conservative than anything else. Should we be suprised that the dinosaur press would pick the most liberal republican to focus our attention? They consider us a bunch of hicks anyway. It is sad when the press gets to pick our nominees. You don’t think so? What about the people who do not have cable tv? (Yes, I am one of them!) Oh well…
Great article.
Huckabee has actually done a good job answering the questions. He is definitely a social conservative. His weakness is more on his tendency to want to federalize certain issues like banning smoking. If he does not alienate the more libertarian conservatives then he may well attract social conservative Democrats in the general election. It will interesting.
I am not the least bit surprised.
I’ve been a lifelong democrat all my life, I’ve never been very religious and I would vote for Huckabee over Clinton in a heartbeat. And I’m not the only democrat who feels that way.
Huckabee will walk away with the presidency easily.
Don’t believe me? Watch this clip…

That clip shows the reason why I, a life long democrat, a huge fan of the daily show, would happily cast my vote for Huckabee over any of the democrats except possibly John Edwards.
He’s real. He’s honest. And he cares about people.
When was the last time a republican actually cared about the plight of the middle class. Doing so is commiting suicide in the primary race, or so people though. Huckabee went against the traditional wisdom and that’s why middle class americans, from both parties will vote for him in droves.
