MSM Doesn’t Heart Huckabee Anymore? 92′ “AIDS Carriers Should Be Isolated”

Posted on December 8, 2007

As Michelle points out, the MSM lovefest is over. AP digs up this statement of his, about AIDS, on a questionare from 1992.

Mike Huckabee once advocated isolating AIDS patients from the general public, opposed increased federal funding in the search for a cure and said homosexuality could “pose a dangerous public health risk.”

As a candidate for a U.S. Senate seat in 1992, Huckabee answered 229 questions submitted to him by The Associated Press. Besides a quarantine, Huckabee suggested that Hollywood celebrities fund AIDS research from their own pockets, rather than federal health agencies.

“If the federal government is truly serious about doing something with the AIDS virus, we need to take steps that would isolate the carriers of this plague,” Huckabee wrote.

“It is difficult to understand the public policy towards AIDS. It is the first time in the history of civilization in which the carriers of a genuine plague have not been isolated from the general population, and in which this deadly disease for which there is no cure is being treated as a civil rights issue instead of the true health crisis it represents.”

I’m not sure where he would have advocated isolating them to. A deserted island? Some government research facility? What is going to be hard to explain is not knowing that the disease couldn’t be spread through casual contact.

Jonathan Adler points this out as well.

This was not the early 1980s, when the threat posed by the HIV virus was poorly understood. Rather it was 1992, long after it was understood that AIDS could not be transmitted through casual contact. So either Huckabee was woefully ignorant about the nature of AIDS, or he supported a quarantine despite the lack of a threat of communicability. Neither interpretation speaks well of him.

Wow, welcome to the spotlight Huckster. The list is piling up high now. It won’t be long now before your surge hits the wall.

To be fair…here is the weak statement released in defense.

“In the late 80’s and early 90’s we were still learning about the virus that causes AIDS. My concern, as a Senate candidate at the time, was to deal with the virus using the same public health protocols that medical science and public health professionals would use with any infectious disease.

Before a disease can be cured and contained we need to know exactly how and with near certainty what level of contact transmits the disease. There was still too much confusion about HIV transmission in those early years. Recall that in 1991, Kimberly Bergalis testified in front of Congress after contracting HIV from her dentist, and that summer a study was published showing that HIV was transmitted through breast milk more easily than had been thought. But the federal government provided some guidelines: Also in 1991 the Centers for Disease Control recommended restrictions on the practice of HIV-positive health care workers.

At the time, there was widespread concern over modes of transmission and the possibility of epidemic. In the absence of conclusive data, my focus was on efforts to limit the exposure of the virus, following traditional medical practices developed from our public health experience and medical science in dealing with tuberculosis and other infectious diseases.
We now know that the virus that causes AIDS is spread differently, with a lower level of contact than with TB. But looking back almost 20 years, my concern was the uncertain risk to the general population – if we got it wrong, many people would die needlessly. My concern was safety first, political correctness last.

My administration will be the first to have an overarching strategy for dealing with HIV and AIDS here in the United States, with a partnership between the public and private sectors that will provide necessary financing and a realistic path toward our goals. We must prevent new infections and provide more accessible care. We must do everything possible to transform the promise of a vaccine and a cure into reality.

Furthermore, I am proud that the United States has led the global battle against HIV/ AIDS. We have both a strategic interest as the world’s only superpower and a moral obligation as the world’s richest country to continue to do so until this scourge is a memory.
I supported the current Administration’s proposal to double our initial commitment from $15 billion to $30 billion over the next five years for the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR). PEPFAR has already done an extraordinary amount of good, by providing drugs for over a million people and care for four-and-a-half million people, but it expires in 2008 and must be reauthorized. I support an increase in our commitment to the Global Fund. Through PEPFAR and the Global Fund, we can do our fair share to meet the Millennium Development Goals we affirmed in 2000, which include universal access to HIV/AIDS prevention, treatment, and care.”

They do isolate HIV and AIDS. Or would you like a blood transfusion by just anyone? I certainly would not like anyone infected with AIDS to be my dentist or surgeon. Accidents happen and I do not want someone with such a disease to be performing certain functions with my life at stake, my wife or children. Can you imagine the lawsuits if someone is infected by hospital staff?

NBA had to institute a policy for its players that receive cuts – why? Is the NBA being professional or bigots?

Another truth if you dare to look up CDC statistics is that the overwhelming evidence shows AIDS spreads at an alarming rate in the Homosexual community in comparision to the heterosexual community. These are plain facts that cannot be ignored. Yet they are ignored and shoved under the table every single day by our government and media.

I am curious. Have you ever bothered to look into this? While the ACLU supports NAMBLA and every other homosexual agenda in our society?

Heterosexual women are infected by so-called “gay” men, that swing one way one day and another night swing the opposite. This is the result of liberalism run amok. Have sex, use a condom, disease? Oh, we have pills for that. Baby? Abort it.

The percentages of infected population by sexual relations in comparison of differing lifestyles are far out of control in the homosexual/bisexual community.

There was definite panic even in the early 90s by many people. Do I agree with Huckabee’s statements? Looking back I was a leftist, on the far left and believed that homosexuals were just fine as long as they didn’t “mess with me.” So in hindsight I would’ve lambasted the man for all of his beliefs. That was juvenile thinking for you, a liberal mindset of the do anything once crowd, twice if you like it generation. Fortunately I’ve grown up and learned some very hard lessons in life.

What has since transpired is NAMBLA supported by the ACLU. The gay marriage at all cost to this nation movement and the continued corruption of family values.

AIDS in fact exist largely among one very small percentage of our society, 1-2% of it maybe. Truth is so many homosexuals “crossover” at times. I find it hard to belived StopTheACLU would be so blind to this evidence. And then attack Huckabee who at the time was dealing with the issue in Arkansas on a totally different level. Now, how many people by city and state are infected each year? What are the correlations by population and so-called “sexual identity” groups? Is there any doubt that San Francisco would be in the highest category of infected cases? Why? What is the cause?

Even if we disagree with Huckabee’s statements in hindsight, you cannot refuse the evidence today. The other 98% of society is hardly effected in numbers by AIDS to be significant. Especially not in comparison to Cancer, Diabetes, Heart Conditions and numerous other diseases that easily outdistance the death rate of HIV and AIDS. Our people, the normal population that does not commit daily acts of abnormal behavior, such as “rimming” are dying daily at a rate far, far above AIDS.

Yet how much funding in comparison is going across the board to these diseases? Frankly, I’m sick of it, tired of the MSM and the far left dominating our tax dollars being spent on a deadly STD that can be prevented by behavior changes.

Anyone who wants to find the truth would look into this statistical data for cause and effect outcomes. Promiscuous behavior is one thing that spurs the transfer, yet what else may lead to it? Many homosexuals lead wild lives sexually on the edge participating not just in questionable sexual stimulation that most normal people would never do, but they also participate at a higher rate in drug usage as part of the stimulation. In short they’re not just irresponsible in sexual promiscuity, but in just about every other area of life as well. They live on the edge and die on the edge. They then expect the world to be their nanny? Why? Why must I pay for their deviant behavior?

Their irresponsible behavior leads to weakened immune systems. All of this contributes to the deadly scenario of AIDS.

None of this is easy to say without being condemned as some bigot. Truth is if we do not shed light on these facts, many more people will continue to die as a result of false information being spread by the Media and the left. What is more loving? Telling the truth or pushing tht truth aside in some “politically correct” message? Oh, well, certainly we want to fund AIDS. Its a serious problem, yada, yada, yada.

Truth? Is is small comparison to the largest killers and it is even more limited to one small segment of society that refuses to change their behavior. As such, they do in fact, infect the heterosexual community at large around them.

Is this politically correct? No, but it is true. Just look up the stats. You’ll be surprised at what you find. Hundreds of thousands of homosexuals get infected yearly, while a few ten thousand do in heterosexuals. What kind of pattern is this? And where are all the infections in relation to populations?

We should demand more information. Someone said, “My people die for lack of knowledge” and so we do. And the lack of standing firm on their trust and faith in God who loves them. Who loves all of us.

The homosexuals are being lied to and so are the rest of the population. But because of a few in power on the left and in the powerful lobbying groups on both sides, this truth is going untold. As a result, more everyday are infected.

Stop the ACLU is about exposing the truth. This is one area it should definitely look into for facts. And yes, this can be done in a loving way. I cannot condemn anyone, certainly, but I see no reason why the truth should not be told in this area.

“Heterosexual women are infected by so-called “gay” men, that swing one way one day and another night swing the opposite.”

I think they call them senators.

“Another truth if you dare to look up CDC statistics is that the overwhelming evidence shows AIDS spreads at an alarming rate in the Homosexual community in comparision to the heterosexual community. These are plain facts that cannot be ignored. Yet they are ignored and shoved under the table every single day by our government and media”

Huh? Who didn’t know that? Must have been a lousy coverup.

“None of this is easy to say without being condemned as some bigot. Truth is if we do not shed light on these facts, many more people will continue to die as a result of false information being spread by the Media and the left.”

But they will all be homosexuals, right?

“Is this politically correct? No, but it is true. Just look up the stats. You’ll be surprised at what you find. Hundreds of thousands of homosexuals get infected yearly, while a few ten thousand do in heterosexuals.”

Actually, this may be true in the US, but not in other countries like Africa where the vast majority are heterosexuals. The heteros must be less moral over there.

You can spew all the half truths you want, the fact is Huckabee was calling for the quarantine of people based not on the medical science but on something else. Bigotry or ignorance? You decide.
