Fred Thompson: Consistent Conservative
Posted on December 4, 2007
I might as well stop playing around and make a decision on who I’m rooting for in the primaries. I wrote of gun-grabbin, pro-abortion Rudy long ago. I’m not comfortably confident with where Mitt stands on the issues. I was giving Huckabee a chance, but as of today I’m writing him off. McCain doesn’t excite me at all. Tancredo has a great record, but he ran as a one issue candidate. Ron Paul…nah. I like Duncan Hunter, but short a miracle he won’t climb the polls. Fred Thompson, as he isn’t shy to point out, is consistent. I agree with him on every issue I can think of. While his campaign hasn’t been the most exciting, his record, consistent principles, straightforwardness, and likability win me over.
I may get behind one of the other guys if Fred doesn’t get the nomination, but for now you can call me a Fred Head.
vidoe hat tip to Hot Air
PS: I still like Duncan Hunter alot, so I’ll root for him too, and hope he gets picked for VP if he doesn’t win.

I have been a Fred supporter for a long time. My enthusiasm has definitely gotten lukewarm though, thanks is great part to the request for HUGE amounts of money….at one time. I don’t know about you, but I can’t afford a grand at a time. :/
I haven’t given any money to anyone yet. I definitely can’t afford to give a grand. All I can do is root and holler my support from this little ol blog.
This seems to be going around. I have a post that I wrote that I was going to cross-publish next Sunday at Right Wing News about the same thing, and, I see that you and John Hawkins are on the same page.
I would prefer Hunter. I am not really comfortable with Fred. I still like Mitt, but, Rudy is very disappointing, as is Huckabee. My major points are small government, low taxes, stopping illegal immigration, and strong national defense. I cannot trust Huckabee or Rudy on those. I cannot trust McCain on illegal immigration, and his McCaain/Feingold is a travesty. For me, Fred is kinda the default position now.
And don’t get me started on Ron Paul!
I’ve been a supporter of his at my web site from the get-go and even though Rush hasn’t officially endorsed him, he did give Thompson an attaboy last Friday for being the only conservative on stage during the infamous CNN debate.
Yay! Welcome aboard!
…and another one sulks to the counter and say, “I guess I’ll take this one.”
Fred is the only guy I am excited about. He is right on the issues and he is the only adult in the race. Huckabee is fooling a lot of people right now and that scares me.
The only issue where Fred is inconsistent is taxation. The only proposed remedy to the mess that is federal taxation that is in line with the Founders’ views on taxation is The FairTax, and Fred, though he is the strongest candidate in voicing his committment to the Founders’ Constitution, has yet to open his eyes and wholeheartedly embrace the FairTax solution.
Apart from that, he’s aces with me.
Oh, and I’d like him to consider my proposal to pay citizens a bounty for turning in illegals and their employers.
(But that’s just my desire to retire a wealthy man talking. *heh*)
Well, John – root for your guy. I’m with Mitt, but I have the advantage of having worked with him (not FOR him, but I worked in the Legislature while he was Governor) and I know how his ideas and record have been distorted (really – the Log Cabing Republicans are running attack ads on him in IA and NH – stop and think about that – how liberal can he be?).
If any of you hae any questions about what he’s like, etc., shoot me an email.
And when he wins the nomination, I hope you’ll support him – he really is a good and intelligent man.
Hallelujah! Welcome aboard, Jay. (I was worried about ya for awhile there).
Fred needs to sit down and actually read both the Fourteenth Amendment and Roe v. Wade as his opinion about the two seems rather ignorant. His idea that abortion is a state issue contradicts the due process clause of the Fourteenth Amendment which is a point Roe v. Wade actually mentions. He might unlike too many candidates be correct in interpretating the commerce clause but I have no idea what his interpretation is.
By the way, I don’t have a link to video or transcript yet, but I just watched Fred on Charlie Rose and he was fantastic. I had a lot of questions about where he stands on education and the role of the federal government and he answered them very thoroughly. If you have a chance to watch the whole thing, I highly recommend it.
Keep in mind my friend, I was a “Fred Head” before Fred was a candidate. Chalk this one up to “I told you so”.
I am so sick of people saying “Well, I like Duncan Hunter, but he won’t get elected”. Well, he quite possibly could if you people will stop saying that and get behind the guy. I used to be like that. I was going to vote for Fred because I figured he would be more electable. Don’t get me wrong, I like Fred and would support him if Hunter drops out. I decided I need to go with my gut and it’s telling me Duncan is the one.
