Boy Scouts Accused of Being Too Pro-War
Posted on November 15, 2007
In a nutshell, a troop of Boy Scouts tried to raise money for the the U.S. troops. Some moonbat cried that the message was too pro-war and so the city removed the donation boxes. Talk about appeasing the appeasers. Outrageous!
Hands down, the best example I’ve ever seen that dispels the often cited liberal load of [edited], “we support the troops, but not the war.” No, you DO NOT support the troops, if you have a problem with sending toiletries to them, then you DO NOT support them….
CAMBRIDGE – Was it just too pro-war for Cambridge? A troop of Boy Scouts is wondering why their donation boxes meant for troops in Iraq were thrown out of polling stations last week.
Election officials ordered the removal of donation boxes set up by a troop of Cambridge Boy Scouts of America during last Tuesday’s municipal election.
The boxes were set up inside the 33 polling stations around the city to collect donations for soldiers serving overseas in the war in Iraq.
Marsha Weinerman, executive director of the city’s Election Commission, said the boxes were removed after a resident complained to commission workers about their implied “pro-war†message.
“We contacted the law department, and it was determined that the best course of action would be to remove the boxes,†Weinerman said.
In a column that appears in this week’s Chronicle, Troop leader Jamisean Patterson said the commission twice granted the scouts permission to set up the boxes at the polling stations.
“We have never seen anything like this decision in Cambridge before,†Patterson wrote. The city is changing for the worse if decisions like this are allowed to be made.â€
As if it wasn’t official before, they hate our troops. A troop of boy scouts in Boston are being called warmongers because they dared to raise money for our troops.
Blackfive sums it up the best:
Supporting the troops who really do keep bad guys from hurting your worthless behinds and pay blood price so you can freely show your ignorance and shortcomings to the world (and basic lack of commitment to free speech) does NOT equal supporting the war. They are, in fact, two separate things and only a mind operating in non-Euclidean space rather than reality could possibly find an intersection between the two. Since it is obvious that you failed basic logic (and probably most science courses as well I bet), they are exclusive of one another.
The Boy Scouts in this case should get not only an apology (the effort having been approved twice by the appropriate commission), but I further feel that Marsha Weinerman should personally, repeat, personally, repay the Scouts the roughly $1,500.00 they spent on the effort to support the troops. Never happen, just following orders I’m sure, but I can dream.

Outrage piled upon outrage …… it’s well past time that officials at all levels were allowed to use good judgment instead being forced into falling to the forced position of deference to the dictum of the politically correct!
So this means that Marsha Weinerman is either a spineless bureaucrat or a complicit activist within the fold of the freedom hating leftwing loons. Possibly both!
Scouts should be suing for infringement of their rights to undertake a lawful activity.
I somehow knew this would lead to someone Bolshevik named Weinerman.
The keey point is that the boxes were set up inside the polling stations on election day.
To help you figure out the point here, imagine some other group collecting money for “victims of Katrina” in an area where a Republican candidate is facing widespread disgruntlement over handling of the aftermath of Katrina. Is it okay with you to put something with politically charged connotations in front of voters just before they vote, right there in the polling place?
Or imagine a race in which health insurance is a very divisive issue. And in every polling place a group arranges to collect to pay the medical bills of people who don’t have health insurance. And of course the display could have pictures and explanations of how these people have major medical bills and face bankruptcy, etc. Is it okay to put something with politically charged connotations in front of the voters just before they vote, right in the polling place?
All of those groups can collect for all of those things in all sorts of places if they want, including the boy scouts collecting for the troops, but as a general principle, the question is whether messages with politically-charged connotations of any kind — not just the ones that benefit issues you support — belong in the polling places on election day.
But please surprise me, and tell me that just as collecting for the troops in the polling places is fine with you, you don’t mind other groups collecting for “victims of global warming” and “people facing bankruptcy because they lack basic health insurance” and so on either, putting those images right in front of voters just before they decide between a Republican and a Democrat.
Bob, a group collecting money for “victims of Katrina” in a situation as you described would not bother me. As long as they were not pouring blood all over themselves or doing it nude like some lunatic liberals like to do.
Actually, none of the examples you provided would bother me as long as they didn’t disrupt, or get crazy.
bob, a voice of reason. thank you.
Polling places are sacred ground. asking someone to remove a candidates button may seem silly but the polling places should not include anything that would influence a vote. Certainly, you agree. I don’t see where in the story they said the complainer was a liberal. Hopefully, conservatives know, understand, and want enforcement of the rules.
In a nutshell, The boy scouts continued their drive.
Having been a Scout myself and with my son currently serving in the Marine Corps I have to agree with Bob. It has NO place in polling places. Even if it were set up right outside that would be great. The wife and I regularly send care packages to my nephew in Iraq and his buddies and donate to other drives as well, but having it inside a polling place opens the door for other activities that don’t belong there either.
The Anti-War crowd is acting foolish which does not do their message any good.
Did I hear someone named Libertarian supporting a nanny state move? People can think for themselves and if they switch their vote because of seeing a button at a polling place then they are truly wishy washy. I would be more concerned about disputes between the supporters of different candidates.
kerwin,
Ah the nanny state card. Could you define nanny state? Should our nanny state allow candidates in polling places? Should our nanny state allow driving on either side of the road? Should our nanny state allow marijuana smoking in class?
You live is a society with laws and rules. The ones you like are OK the ones you don’t are part of a nanny state. Name calling is not an argument, butt head.
To call eliminating politics from a polling place part of a nanny state is just ignorant.
If supporting the troops is a political statement and the liberals object to this statement it only shows loud and clear that liberals/democrats do not support our troops. Regardless of whether you agree with the war or disagree, everyone should support our troops. I am amazed everyday by the lengths liberals will go to win points with the anti war crowd. We need to get this congress out ASAP and get people in who support our men and women in the field. All my thoughts are with the troops and the wonderful Boy Scouts who wanted to do a good thing for the troops. I hope the boys of this troop remember this slight by the democrats and grow up to be strong conservative voters!!!!!

Shannon, why do you assume the complainer was a liberal? Any evidence?
“Name calling is not an argument, butt head.” Libertarian
I was pointing out a contradiction between your chosen moniker and your political stance on the issue. You are certainly not sounding like a libertarian. Libertarians want the fewest rules possible and are rather averse to censoring such as banning political speak at the polling place. They call any such actions the action of a nanny government.
Oh, I forgot. It is easier for people on this site to deal only with stereotypes.
Look up the word “Libertarian” on wikipedia and you know all about me.
Here is a letter i sent to the spineless liberal democrat.
Here is a letter i sent to the heartless worm *Marsha Weinerman* – The Woman Who Shut Down the Care Package Drive.
Your a heartless person. Nothing more but a cold hearted liberal democrat. This is the reason why this country is so screwed up because of people like you standing in the way of progress. You liberal Democrats are the true terrorists of this country as you all support them every time you put are troops down. You Liberal Democrats hate are troops so much way don’t you pack your bags and move to IRAN. They will welcome you with open arms. Do you know what you have done to the kids trying to do something for the troops or even some may have parents in the service and here you are telling them its wrong. Your a sick person. You should be removed from your job duties for this.
Wow, Mike. You got a lot of hate in few words.
