Condi Gets A Subpoena

Update: Here is video:

From the Breaking News More When We Get It File;

WASHINGTON (AP) A federal judge has approved subpoenas for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and other senior intelligence officials in an espionage case.

Stay tuned for developments, but I bet the kos kids are dancing in their tofu over this one.

Update: From USA Today:

A federal judge just approved a subpoena that compels Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to testify in the criminal trial of two pro-Israel lobbyists accused of espionage.

U.S. District Judge T.S. Ellis III ruled today that the defendants have a right to call Rice, national security adviser Stephen Hadley, deputy national security adviser Elliott Abrams and others to testify about what role, if any, the men played in crafting U.S. foreign policy.

Steven Rosen and Keith Weissman, former employees of AIPAC, have denied any wrongdoing.

Still not enough to form an opinion on…but its getting interesting.

More details:

Lawrence Anthony Franklin, a Department of Defense official, was caught red-handed giving highly classified papers to two officials, Steve Rosen and Keith Weissman, of AIPAC—in part, concerning U.S. policy toward the Islamic Republic of Iran, Iraq and the war on terrorism. But from the carefully worded indictment, it is clear that a lot more may have been going on…

Ahhh…more Valerie Plame connected stuff:

It is an important story, arguably one that has greater implications for national security than the scandal involving the churlish outing of undercover CIA operative Valerie Plame. So far, at least, the media frenzy attending to the Plame affair is matched by nearly total silence about the Franklin-AIPAC affair? Can it be true that reporters are more courageous about pursuing a story that involves the White House than they are about plunging into a scandal that involves Israel, our No. 1 Middle East ally?

One Response to “Condi Gets A Subpoena”

    A Nov. 15 2007 AP story indicates Chevron was fined $30M by the SEC for bribing Saddams’s thugs in the “oil for food” deal and that Chevron may face tax evasion charges later. The bribes were in the millions so someone pretty high up at Chevron had to sign off on the payments. Unfortunately the AP story did not mention Dr. Condoleezza Rice the Chevron board member and the chairman of the “Public Policy Committee” which is responsible for making sure this kind of activity does not happen.

    The Chevron website says the committee’s purposes include “identifying, evaluating and monitoring social, political and environmental trends, issues and concerns”, “analyzing how public policy trends could impact business activities and performance”. Dr. Rice never discussed the Iraqi bribes on the record (not in the minutes) at company meetings. That should not surprise anyone who is familiar with her lack of response to 911 warnings.

    President Clinton put sanctions on Iraq. Actions by Chevron and Rice clearly violated those sanctions and amount to treason. I urge our new Attorney General Michael Mukasey and California Attorney General Jerry Brown determine who at Chevron authorized the millions in bribes.
