Google gives finger to Memorial Day yet again

Newsbusters: Google Ignores Memorial Day…Again!

Well, citizens, America’s leading search engine, and one of the most powerful forces on the Internet, has once again ignored Memorial Day.

As NewsBusters reported last year:

I’m sure most Googlers are extremely aware of how Google will dress up its logo at its web search or news pages in honor of holidays or special occasions…Yet, if you go to Google’s home page here, or its news page here, you will see nothing commemorating today’s national holiday.

One might have thought that after last year’s scrutiny, Google might have capitulated. Not so.

Yet, since last Memorial Day, Google has recognized the following:

The birthday of Norwegian painter Edvard Munch was commemorated on December 12, 2006, with the image in the top right-hand corner.

The start of the World Cup – June 9, 2006…

And, as NewsBusters reported, the following global warming reference on Earth Day – April 22, 2007…

Furthermore, if you go back through the Google logo archives, you’ll find that, although it has over the years commemorated Shichi-go-san being celebrated in Japan, Bastille Day in France, the Persian New Year, Louis Braille’s birthday and Korean Liberation Day, it appears that Google has never dressed up its logo for Memorial Day.

Why? Don’t the folks at Google think it’s important to recognize those that have died for their freedom and helped make them some of the weathiest people on the planet?

Of course, the billion-dollar twits honored Chinese New Year as well, probably part of their cozy, turn-in info on the counter-revolutionaries relationship with the ChiComms. But honor those who’ve shed blood to allow these losers to do what they do? Never!

That’s bullcrap! Yahoo! Started doing the google thing too and they didn’t either. A simple American flag would do.

My mom had my grandfather’s flag out with his picture from WWII. Awesome.
