Steakhouse Owner Refuses to Serve O.J. Simpson

Posted on May 10, 2007

So the race card is played again:

“The owner of an upscale steakhouse in Louisville said he asked O.J. Simpson to leave his restaurant the night before the Kentucky Derby because he is sickened by the attention Simpson still attracts. “I didn’t want to serve him because of my convictions of what he’s done to those families,” Jeff Ruby said in a telephone interview Tuesday. “The way he continues to torture the lives of those families … with his behavior, attitude and conduct.”

Simpson, an NFL Hall of Famer and Heisman Trophy winner, was found innocent in 1995 of killing his ex-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and Ron Goldman but was found liable in a civil trial that followed.

Simpson’s attorney, Yale Galanter, said the incident was about race, and he intended to pursue the matter and possibly go after the restaurant’s liquor license.

Anybody who thinks Simpson is less than a disgusting human being is making a comment about themselves. The race card got Simpson out of jail but that just magnifies the offence. He should have fried.

    “was found innocent”

Ummmmmm, that would be “not guilty.” Simpson was not found “innocent.”

Big difference. Another example of the subtle bias and poor reporting you write about on your other post today JJR.

Refreshing to see that there is still someone who does not want to be
known by the company he keeps.
    .
Makes me want to buy a steakhouse.

O.J. is the victim of an outrage ..He went through the ordeal of a trial and was aquitted . Anyone who harasses him is fundamentally identified as both malicious – and stupid .
The redneck restauranteur should be appropriately penalized ….He is neither a judge nor a jury , if even the law allowed anything so primitive as double jeapordy !

Robert, Robert, Robert…I would imagine that the steakhouse has a sign posted that reads “We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone, for any reason”. End of subject. That this owner allowed personal feelings to dictate his actions is none of anyone’s business. Just because he is a psuedo-celeb means he gets more undeserved attention. That you make mention that he went through the “ordeal” of a trial…C’mon! He was charged with some very serious offenses, what should he have gone through? Honestly. And why are you kissing his ass? He doesn’t read this posting.

The owner of the restaurant stated that it was OJ’s book and OJ’s
“this is how I would have done it” from the book as the reason he
told OJ that he would not be served.
    .
Had nothing to do with the trial, nothing to do with whether or
not he was found “innocent” or “not guilty” — which is a rather
specious argument at best, actually a poor attempt at the red herring
defense so typically in use today.
    .
Refusing to serve someone because they are diametrically opposed to your
sense of moral right and wrong is not racism.
    .
    It is called, “liberty”.
