So a chimp is a “person” but an unborn child isn’t

Activists Want Chimp Declared a ‘Person’
VIENNA, Austria (AP) – In some ways, Hiasl is like any other Viennese: He indulges a weakness for pastry, likes to paint and enjoys chilling out watching TV.
But he doesn’t care for coffee, and he isn’t actually a person—at least not yet.In a case that could set a global legal precedent for granting basic rights to apes, animal rights advocates are seeking to get the 26- year-old male chimpanzee legally declared a “person.”
Hiasl’s supporters argue he needs that status to become a legal entity that can receive donations and get a guardian to look out for his interests.
“Our main argument is that Hiasl is a person and has basic legal rights,” said Eberhart Theuer, a lawyer leading the challenge on behalf of the Association Against Animal Factories, a Vienna animal rights group.
“We mean the right to life, the right to not be tortured, the right to freedom under certain conditions,” Theuer said.
“We’re not talking about the right to vote here.”
…I guess until you win this one right?
Socially inept monkey woman is gearing up.
A date for the appeal hasn’t been set, but Hiasl’s legal team has lined up expert witnesses, including Jane Goodall, the world’s foremost observer of chimpanzee behavior.
Jane Goodall…you mean the same person who accepts awards from groups that believe a child may be brutally mudered up until the moment of birth if a woman feel so inspired by her “constitutional right” to order the execution?
And chimps are “people.”
Only the Left could come up with something so idiotic.

Wanna see ‘em go ballistic?
Just go ahead and announce that yer gonna perform an abortion on a monkey.
.
Only the right could be so stupid as to comment on this topic in this way.
You could have said animal cruelty is wrong, but discussed why calling a chimp a person is wrong, but no, you opted for stupidity.
And what were you thinking when you brought up the abortion issue. As long as the right does not express incredible outrage over all the innocent Iraqis that have been killed, I will continue not believing for a moment that they are actually concerned about a fetus. I have never believed the right about that and considering their continued lack of compassion for actual living breathing human beings, I can’t see that changing any time soon. Nice try, but no dice.
If you noticed Mr. PP, I bolded a certain phrase. “Right to life” was the phrase used by the monkey lovers.
If cruelty to animals was the lead of the story, I would have addressed it had I chosen to post on that topic. The point of the story was these people trying to create “person” status for chimps. Not sure how that was lost on you. Not sure why you can’t see the manifest hypocrisy and the glaringly obvious connection of a woman who wants to testify that chimps are “people” but is apparently conviced that human babies are not.
“discussed why calling a chimp a person is wrong”
Why argue when something is self-evident? A chimp is a chimp, not a human. That’s that. Only a muddled mind would even think there was an argument here.
“As long as the right does not express incredible outrage over all the innocent Iraqis that have been killed, ”
The Right is the ONLY side outraged about terrorist attacks on innocents. The Left thinks that “global warming” is the biggest threat to humanity. What the frig are you talking about? Did you happen to hear the recent debates? Which party address Islamic terrorism? Not yours.
Does any “person” have the right to live off/in another person without permission ?
If the state wishes to intervene and raise this other “person” I say let them go ahead, but, there is also the 14th Amendment to our Constitution.
“Does any “person†have the right to live off/in another person without permission?”
I suppose that knowingly and purposely engaging in the act one knows will produce this uteral tenant doesn’t count as “permission” huh John? Since when did Americans need permission from the government or from anyone else to be alive?
Following your logic John, I guess we should “provide” mass post-natal abortions to anyone presently on government assistance. I certainly haven’t given anyone authorization to use the food stamps paid for by the theft of money that I’ve busted my tail to earn to buy malted milk balls and the Capri Sun super pack for their fat kids.
If the 14th Amendment doesn’t apply to unborn children, why should we stop there? I would bet that there are a host of other types of folks you think are ripe for snuffing for no reason other than someone else’s convenience or “lifestyle.”
Only those on the left jump immediately to the ad hominem and demonization attack.

Jeez Glib, you are so bad for my spiritual life. You tempt me to just keep baiting you to hear you spout conservative BS. I wrote something pointing out more of your errors and baiting you with more loaded statements. But I spent my usual hour or two studying scripture before I got around to posting it. After that I just didn’t think it was right to post it.
Do you realize that you would be so much better off if you quit looking for things to hate and just enjoyed life?
If you ever decide to give up your obsession with hating things I could help you, I have spent years studying the gospels and many other religious writings. I really do have a very good understanding of the message in the bible.
I never allow myself to get involved enough in what I write on blogs to be angry with the people I write to. I have to truly be able to wish the very best life possible for them at all times or I would not be true to my beliefs. (occasionally I slip up in this regard, but I recover as quickly as I can).
I do disagree that your political ideas would make the world a better place, but it does not make me happy that you find so many political events in the world upsetting.
A human is a human. A primate is a primate. This is a fact. That people cannot be trusted to give the very basic of care to this monkey implies that he somehow “knows” that there is something better out there that regular monkeys are not getting and he wants for himself. A classic case of us as humans placing our feelings onto a non-human animal. There is a name for it. It is called anthropomorphism. This is too stupid. There are bigger and better things to confront, yet we waste our time on crap like this. You ever wonder if the left drums-up stories like this to occupy and distract our minds from worthy issues?
Pat, you are a riot. I’m truly not sure if you are a real character or one of my buddies having a little fun. You have done your job either way.
I’ve never seen a contributor to this board spend so much time buried in the prideful sort of self-congratulation that leads to this hilarious self-contradiction. Funniest thing is that you have no shame (or is it no self-awareness) about this whatsoever.
If you can point out one instance where I have demonstrated “hate,” let’s talk. Sad thing is, you can’t. In typical anti-intellectual Leftist fashion, you think the name-calling is sufficient.
It’s not tempting in any way to take seriously anything you have to say about scripture as you are unable to analyze very simple arguments made here and come up with a thoughtful rebuttal. If you have trouble with me, I tend to think that you wouldn’t grasp God’s Word very well. (So, how long DID you spend “studying scripture,” Pat? You’d know if it were ONE hour or TWO. Statements like that really tip one off to the dishonesty of one’s interlocutor.)
Glib,
I am a friend having a little fun, but not in the way that you meant that. I’m a friend, in the sense that I wish you well. I’m having fun because I won’t allow myself to take blogs any way other than that.
About the hate thing, it won’t do any good to answer you because you are unable to see it. But here’s the answer anyway. Everything you post about on here is something you hate. The very site is dedicated to hating the ACLU.
You probably think you are performing something along the lines of a public service, but you’re not. You’re spewing hate. You are so used to your personality of hate that it appears normal to you. Probably until guns and loss of life is involved you don’t consider an attitude to be worthy of being called hate.
Take a couple months off from the internet do something completely different for a while. Spend time teaching kids or something. I bet when you come back and look at the crap that is on, not only the conservative blogs, but the leftist ones as well, you might be able to see how full of hate that they are.
I see the self congratulatory remarks that I make in the same way that you do. I know how they sound, but I also realize that on conservative blogs subtlety goes right over everybody’s head, so you may as well tell them straight out what you want them to know. Of course it would be embarrassing if someone I knew outside of my “Pat†persona were to see it, and realize that it was me.
I have experience with giving people things about me to make fun of while slowly planting ideas in their heads that after a time begin to take root. I always take their mocking and whatever, without offense and thus later there is nothing to stop them from changing their mind about me and accepting many of my views.
If your hatred of intellectual and liberal things is something that you value, you really should filter me out of your website. There is a very real chance that over time I will be able to help you see things in a less hate filled way.
By the way, I studied Matthew for an hour and the Gospel of Thomas for at least an hour after that. Two hours of scripture study in my book, but I recognize that not everyone would accept the Gospel of Thomas as scripture. You were so sure you understood the situation and you were dead wrong. Wow! One can only wonder how many other things you are completely wrong about.
“You’re spewing hate.”
Once again, Pat can’t provide an example. You must be from the George Stephanopoulos school that holds, “The charge has been made, that’s one piece of evidence.”
“You are so used to your personality of hate that it appears normal to you.”
“Everything you post about on here is something you hate.”
Another couple of laughers from Pat. No evidence, so you pull another lame card. Pat, if “everything” I post about is filled with hate, you can provide an example. The uber-pompous an exceedingly weak “you wouldn’t see it” defense won’t cut it.
“By the way, I studied Matthew for an hour and the Gospel of Thomas for at least an hour after that. Two hours of scripture study in my book, but I recognize that not everyone would accept the Gospel of Thomas as scripture. You were so sure you understood the situation and you were dead wrong. Wow! One can only wonder how many other things you are completely wrong about.”
See Pat, here’s where I wonder about your lucidity. You again missed a very simple point. You said you “studied scripture for an hour or two.” The very-easy-to-grasp point I was making was that one would know whether one did something for an hour or two hours, so would not say “and hour or two” if one were telling the truth. Your CYA is so, so rich.
