Our “allies”
Is this the “international community” that we are supposed to “rejoin” and in front whom we must supinate ourselves to “regain trust?”
New York Times: Europe Resists U.S. Push to Curb Iran Ties
European governments are resisting Bush administration demands that they curtail support for exports to Iran and that they block transactions and freeze assets of some Iranian companies, officials on both sides say. The resistance threatens to open a new rift between Europe and the United States over Iran.
Administration officials say a new American drive to reduce exports to Iran and cut off its financial transactions is intended to further isolate Iran commercially amid the first signs that global pressure has hurt Iran’s oil production and its economy. There are also reports of rising political dissent in Iran.
In December, Iran’s refusal to give up its nuclear program led the United Nations Security Council to impose economic sanctions. Iran’s rebuff is based on its contention that its nuclear program is civilian in nature, while the United States and other countries believe Iran plans to make weapons.
At issue now is how the resolution is to be carried out, with Europeans resisting American appeals for quick action, citing technical and political problems related to the heavy European economic ties to Iran and its oil industry.
So, not pressuring Iran because of oil…being that we know Iran’s intentions, since we know Iran will finance those intentions with oil revenue and the question is when not if Iran will escalate its international terrorist ambitions, can’t we begin screaming “No Blood for Oil!!!!!!!!!!!!!” in front of these European jellyfish spines right away? After all, we KNOW the (in)action of the Europeans as a result of oil interests is right now leading to death.
Seems as though even a nuke won’t shake these effete ostriches from their cultural slumber. When the moment of truth arrives, I’d rather “go it alone” (you know “alone” with 38 other countries, like in Iraq) than with these irresolute suicidists.

Does this have something to do with the ACLU?
Our allies are just that our allies. Republicans from the Right as usual want servants.
If you want a maid Mr. Glib hire one.
By the way the Bush Administration after the Iraq mess, is the last group of people on hearth
that any country would like to follow. I know that you are one of the 28% of Bush supporters
left in America, and in the world so please don’t confuse your pathetic status miority as some kind
of position of strenght, or credibility because you have none left.

These words are true. Do the approval rating have to go down even further for you folks to realize your hanging onto a failed administration? Also as was stated earlier, what has this got to do with the ACLU? Or are we just spitting on anybody who disagrees with us?
“we KNOW the (in)action of the Europeans as a result of oil interests is right now leading to death.”
No, the government told you, and so you THINK so. You don’t KNOW a damned thing about it.
So why is talking to iran a problem…the rest of the world happens to believe in talk,
and negotiations….only bushies believe war is always the answer. Try to remember, as much as you hope, we do not own the world!
From the logic used in your tirade (is it really possible to launch a tirade and remain logical?), the only rational approach to a good portion of the world is to launch a full scale pre-emptive nuclear attack. You really can’t trust anyone. And with allies like these . . .
As far as ultimatums go, let us put several in front of the French and Germans. Tell the French and Germans that if you do not help us in the GWOT, then every American troop, ship, tank and plane on your soil will be removed in days, not years. We will fold our tents and allow you to defend your nation against the Soviets and the Chinese and Islamo-wackos. We will pull all intelligence support of any kind and will not assist your nation if and when you are ever attacked – invasion, car bombs, nuclear, etc. Put these kind of ultimatums in front of our allies and let’s see what happens. If the French remember Hitler and Hindenburg, then maybe, just maybe , they might think twice about not helping us. If the Germans in charge today remember Hitler, Himmler, Heydrich, then they might think twice about not helping us. If and when we pull every bit of our support in troops and economic support which comes from leasing their land, then our Frog and Bosch friends might think twice about snubbing their noses to us. If I were W, I’d get on the phone and tell them fellas, ‘You know, if it was not for the US, all you fellas would be speaking German or Russian.’ Now, how many divisions can I put you down for Iraq.’
Wasn’t it Patton who said, ‘I’d rather have a German Division in front of me than a French Division behind me.’ At this point in history, I want neither supporting us. And if those folks, don’t want to help, then they should start to add Arabic into thier Constiutions which we helped build for them after WWII. Good luck Froggies and Squareheads! Thanks for all your help!
Why would Europeans obey George Bush? When was he crowned Emperor of the World?
Bush’s excellent adventure in Iraq is a monumental disaster. The Europeans told him it would be a mistake to
go to Iraq. He did not listen. They were right. Why would they trust an Administration that knows only
one thing about international relations: “Shoot them first, ask questions later”.
But go ahead, 28%ers, beat up on the Europeans. They don’t give a damn. Thanks to Bush and his endless array
of failures and mistakes, the U.S. is no longer a world power. Russia and China are.
What does this have to do with the ACLU anyway? You, people are so stupid that you do not understand that the
ACLU exists to defend the right to free speech. They have defended very offensive groups and characters,
such as the right of Neo-Nazis to hold rallies. Free speech is free speech, even if it is hateful
and offensive. They would defend your right to spew whatever garbage you want on this blog if someone tried
to shut you down, because you, as unsavory as you are, are entitled to free speech like all Americans.
It is amazing how the radical authoritarians in this country believe that they, and only they, are entitled to
free speech, and how they want to shut down any dissent. Pathetic!
OK – will the ACLU defend the student who mocked MLK at an off campus party in Texas? Uhm? What’s your answer? None. If the ACLU does not defend everyone, then the ACLU should defend no one! Moron!
patd95, I’m not entirely sure why you think this proves any sort of point.
The students involved in that party haven’t been charged with anything,
so where does the ACLU come in?
