Got A Head Cold? Senator Feinstein (D-CA) Says #$%^ You!!
Posted on January 3, 2007
On September 26, 2006, Diane Feinstein had the following press release:
Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today announced that a new law going into effect tomorrow, September 30, should have a substantial impact on the nationwide fight against methamphetamine.
The “Combating Methamphetamine Epidemic Act,†sponsored by Senators Feinstein and Jim Talent (R-Mo) requires cold medications containing pseudoephedrine to be placed behind a pharmacy counter, requires signature and proof of identification before purchase, and limits the amount of pseudoephedrine that one person can buy in a single day or month.
Sigh, as a typical politician she never said what “should have a substantial impact” actually means. Here is what has happened:
“But, now, we have seen a corresponding increase in the trafficking of meth into our country,” Gonzales said. “While we would still have a meth crisis without the smuggled drugs, it is the case that Mexican labs have impacted the U.S. with their product and replaced the meth once provided by domestic labs.”
He estimated 80 percent of meth in the U.S. now originates in Mexico.
But you might say, “Hey, if it is “Hecho en Mexico” it can not be better than Made in USA?” Sigh……, the imported meth is crystal meth aka “ICE:”
“I think obviously with the labs reducing, they realize that there is a market out there and a demand,†he said about the Mexican drug cartels.
Since the crystal meth is smoked, the drug reaches the brain faster than powder meth does, increasing the likelihood of addiction.
Do you think that the Senator would have looked at what happened at the State Level before and after restrictions on cold medicine were placed?
The number of people seeking treatment has been on a steady increase for the past several years. The state treated 7,669 adults and 820 teens for meth addiction last year, compared with 6,379 adults and 717 teens the year before, according to the state’s Division of Alcohol and Substance Abuse.
Thank you Senator Feinstein for making it harder to get cold medicine and getting more Americans addicted on imported crystal meth!!
