14 Christians Arrested in Iran

Hat tip and crossposted from Right on the Right:

Apparently, some muslims in Iran converted to Christianity, and the penalty for that will be death. They tried to have a peaceful Christmas celebration and they were raided and arrested. I suppose the ‘free speech’ Ahmadinejad says they have only applies to muslims following Sharia Law. The following is from FreeRepublic, as translated from another site:

According to confirmed reports from inside of Iran, 14 ex-muslims who converted to christianity were arrested a week ago in cities of Karaj, Tehran and Rasht.

Reports from US backed RadioFarda.com tell us that these new christians were trying to hold religious gathering to celebrate christmas and they are charged with converting from Islam to christianity and according the sharia law, the penalty for such act is death.

Their bibles, religious books & symbols, CDs and other personal stuff were seized by the authorities.

The families of these detainees staged a rally in front of the judicial ministry but their peaceful gathering was met with brutal actions of the ministry of intelligence agents.

The name of the christian detainees are:

In city of Rasht: Shaheen Taghizadeh, Yosef Noorkhani, Mathias Hagh-Nejad, Parviz Khalaj, Muhammad Belyad, Peyman Salarvand, Sohrab Sayadi, Mr. Davood and Mr. Amin.

City of Tehran: Mrs. Shirin Sadegh, Mr. Behrooz Sadegh, Mr. Hamid-Reza Tolou’ee

City of Karaj: Mr. Behnam Irani & Mr. Bahman Irani (brothers)

The families of these above mentioned detainees ask all people from all around the world to raise their concern with their governments and help secure the release of their loved ones from the jails of the Islamic regime of Iran.

The blogosphere needs to call out, immediately, for the Bush administration and other freedom-promoting governments around the world to stand up and push Iran to release these prisoners. We need to offer them political asylum and condemn Iran for this brutality and terrorism. The Islamofascist reign in Iran has taken too many Christian lives, and this is a chance to take a stand. Finally, pray for these brave men and women. These are the true martyrs, not the murderous thugs that kill in the name of Allah.

So far, no complaints from CAIR on religious discrimination.

It’s really a downer to see what the natural progression of mixing religion into law, order and politics is, eh? It’d be fantastic if we could look at stupid behaviour like this and maybe try to learn something from it? Maybe?

    jimmy,
That statement is not only ignorant, but has nothing to do with the post.

It’d be fantastic if we could look at stupid behaviour like this and maybe try to learn something from it? Maybe?

Considering your statement, I would say that there is a slight chance that you could pull it off…if you work at it!

Well, there is a difference between freedom of speech and freedom of religion. It’s possible (I’m not saying it’s likely) that he would have tolerated speech in favor of Christianity, but not the actual practice of it.

I feel great sadness that anyone is treated this way but I question wisdom of allowing the interference of the International community.

The International community will take such permission as a blank check to push their political agenda. The United Nations is well known to do this. Legalized genocide through abortion is one item they seem to push unofficially.

The U.S. or others can offer Iran a deal where Iran exiles these individuals instead of executing them and the U.S. takes them in. The question is what concessions are you willing to make to Iran if that deal is to go through.

It is not the international communities freedom of speech I am concerned about but when they choose to back up that freedom with bribes or force.

Iran is in defiance of all norms of modern civilization . In this case , the Iranian government …and it’s responsible officials are perpetrators of high crimes against humanity – MURDER !
They should be tagged as criminals on a par with the Saddam Hussain cabal….Atrocities of this pernicious magnitude must be brought to justice .

“Please Lord, help your children in jail, and not only the fourteen in Iran, my heart
is upset and i cry for Your children.”
I had contact with brother Mathias Hagh-Nejad and now this happened.
I cry for him. Sister Tjally.
