Freedom loving VenezuelanÃ¢â‚¬â„¢s staged protests in the streets against the Marxist candidate, but Chavez is wily. He has taken the oil surplus over the past year and invested it in the poorer communities. That has engendered extreme loyalty from the the poorest in Venezuela.

One of his first priorities as he takes office is shutting down private television stations.
