Whites Only Scholarship Creates Outrage

Via ABC

Joe Mroszczyk, president of the College Republicans at Boston University, admits he set out to stir up a hornet’s nest when he came up with the idea of offering a whites-only scholarship at the school. But he got a little more buzz than he bargained for.

“To tell you the truth, we didn’t see this coming,” Mroszczyk said. “The Drudge Report picked it up yesterday, and today I just finished a round of national interviews. It’s kind of overwhelming.”

All the media attention is focused on a $250 Caucasian Achievement and Recognition Scholarship offered by Mroszczyk and the BU chapter of the College Republicans. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher; they must write two essays; and, here’s the kicker, they must be at least one-quarter Caucasian.

The application itself offers an explanation: “We believe that racial preferences in all their forms are perhaps the worst form of bigotry confronting America today.”

According to Mroszczyk, his group is offering the scholarship to point out “how ridiculous it is to have any sort of racially based scholarship.”

At BU, for example, students who are at least one-quarter Hispanic can apply for a National Hispanic Recognition Scholarship.

“There are plenty of poor, white, academically gifted students who need that money just as much,” Mroszczyk said.

I laughed out loud when I heard this news. I’ve always thought that those pushing for special treatments based on race would not like the idea as much if it were applied to whites. Now I see I was right. When the shoe is on the other foot they drag out the ol level playing field argument. How is it not racist to have scholarships with race as a criteria? I think this was a brilliant move with the clear motive stated on exposing the racist attitude behind such scholarships. Don’t tell me that Hispanics and Blacks need the scholarships more because they tend to be poor more than whites. That would be a racist stereotype in itself. Anyway, I thought it would strike up an interesting conversation in the comments.

It was a good move and illustrates the hypocrisy of the left.

    Well done, Mr. Mroszczyk.

Wow, Jeff! You really agree on this one?

Of course. Racial preference is a load of crap. In fact, I just recently voted to ban affirmative action in my state.

That’s hilarious. I’m going to start the WET channel that only plays white artists and promotes White History Month. Anybody want to invest?

Wow! Jeff Molby actually backing a conservative idea, and voting to ban affirmative action in his state, say is isn’t so!

Indeed. Other fun facts about Jeff:

    - He has never voted for a Democrat
    - He supports lower taxes and spending
    - He opposed Social Security and Medicare in their current forms

Of course, you don’t see that because this site focuses on the ACLU which focuses its attention on the 1st and 5th ammendments. Republicans haven’t been very friendly to these amendments lately, so I look like a liberal to you because I oppose them on these issues.

    Jeff,

My bad. Are you a libertarian?

  10. Jeff Molby on November 26th, 2006 5:11 pm

No hard feelings. I’m not registered, but yeah, most of my votes have gone to the Libertarian Party recently.

There aren’t any hard feelings here. Just because I don’t agree with some one I don’t take arguement personally. A person is much more than their point of view on any particular issue.
