ACLU And Other Grinches Of Christmas

ACLU pressure to nix a nativity scene was successful in Berkely:

City leaders in Berkley voted Monday night to remove a nativity scene from City Hall.

The nativity scene has stood outside City Hall every Christmas season for 65 years.

Last year, the American Civil Liberties Union accused the city of violating the Constitution with the display.

Monday night, council members voted 6-1 to turn the nativity scene over to a group of clergy who will administer a rotation plan between local churches.

The ACLU are not the only grinches.

Jule’s Crittendon emails to say, “don’t tell the ACLU” on this news.

The Grinch soiled Christmas on the Taunton Green Saturday, when a local man allegedly urinated on holiday decorations, in full view of midday traffic.

Thomas Stewart, 61, was charged with indecent exposure after he allegedly leaned against a veterans’ statue on the Green and urinated on a tree, some lights and the monument, with cars and pedestrians passing by, police said.

“It’s a sad situation when you work so hard to prepare something and you have a small group of people that want to destroy what we’ve done,” said Marilyn Greene, director of Taunton’s park and public grounds.

Green said the town hadn’t even finished decorating the park when the incident took place.

“There will be security when all the decorations are finally up,” she said.
