Kucinich Calls for Cutting Off Iraq War Funds

It was only a matter of time before one of the anti-war liberals made this suggestion. They are convinced they were elected to end the war in Iraq, and despite warnings from experts including the US Commander in the Middle East that a timetable withdrawal would be devestating they have their mind set and control of the purse strings. It seems a bi-partisan effort towards a solution is not of interest to many of the Dems. Only complete surrender will satisfy. And so enters Kucinich.

Congressman Kucinich called Wednesday for cutting off funding of the Iraq war, as the surest way out of Iraq. His statements were made in an interview by Democracy Now!’s Amy Goodman.

“I want to say that there’s one solution here, and it’s not to engage in a debate with the President, who has taken us down a path of disaster in Iraq, but it’s for Congress to assume the full power that it has under the Constitution to cut off funds. We don’t need to keep indulging in this debate about what to do, because as long as we keep temporizing, the situation gets worse in Iraq.

“We have to determine that the time has come to cut off funds. There’s enough money in the pipeline to achieve the orderly withdrawal that Senator McGovern is talking about. But cut off funds, we must. That’s the ultimate power of the Congress, the power of the purse. That’s how we’ll end this war, and that’s the only way we’re going to end this war.

“We need to shift our direction.”

“We have to take a whole new approach. We’re spending over $400 billion a year, money that’s also needed for healthcare, for education, for job creation, for seniors. We have to take a new look at this. We need to be a strong country, but strength isn’t only military. Strength is also the economic strength of the people, their chance to have good neighborhoods. We spend more money than all the countries of the world put together for the military.

This “new” approach is all a part of America’s “new direction.” The direction of cut, run, and surrender as quickly as possible.

Consider the source. Why this mental midget is even in the House is a complete mystery to me. Kucinich single handedly put the city of Cleveland into default. The only time a US city has been put into that situation. Why is he even a member of the body which is charged with advancing bills upon which the nation’s treasure is raised and spent I haven’t a clue.

That being said, the ultra left is drawing upon the moderate dems elected in this past election to advance themselves and their lunatic ideas.

    (empasis mine)

Please tell me you drew this conclusion from more than the words of Kucinich and Conyers. They are both House veterans that haven’t been seriously challenged in years.

Well, Gribbit, you siad it, you don’t have a clue. Kucinich is cutting right to the heart of the matter. Any idiot who thinks we’re winning this war needs his head examined. We have lost on every front. Bush has been spending, spending and spending well into future generations and nothing is changing. In my life I would have never believed a Republican could spend so much money with so little to show for it. My party is gone and has been replaced with spending fools.

I sit here and type with a prosthetic limb and my sister is currently deployed with the 42nd in Bayji. Between the two of us we will be haunting our grandchildren for years with the stories of bloody incompetence and corruption we’ve seen on behalf of our own country in Iraq. Five years ago I would never have believed I would be saying this, yet here I am. I will never forget the faces of the children over there and how they could be so oblivious of the growiung nightmare that was their homeland.
We ruined that country. The people there hate us for it and that hatred grows by the day.

It’s time we move to the periphery and let the Democrats take the wheel, because our party is too screwed up to be given this responsibility. If that means cutting the purse strings, then so be it. i can;t believe there is any money in there anyway! I am not going to speculate on what is going to happen becuase I think the situation is way too far gone, but I know Bush is not doing anyone any good and is just getting everyone over there killed. Our military is splintering and our soldiers are losing heart.

To start with…thank you for your service AND sacrifice. I truly mean that.

We have lost on every front.
    No…YOU’VE lost on every front!

You got beat. You let them not only take a limb, but your backbone and balls as well.
They turned you into a “surrender monkey” to come home and do here what they can’t do over there.

You’ve definitely earned the right to say what you will and we’ve earned the right to tell you that you are full of it.

Your delusions are yours, own them, but what anyone else has chosen to believe and sacrifice for is theirs as well.

Your sacrifice has not earned you the right to piss all over everyone else and minimize or negate their sacrifices. Regardless of what you say, you’re a lefty and more than likely, have been from the get go.

    60th Street,

Your speech sparks of ignorance. Do you even know what we really need to accomplice in Iraq? What we need to do is train Iraqi troops and police so they can win the peace. We have against us both Iran and Syria who are stirring up the rogue elements of the Sunni(including the Secular Baathist) and Shiite religions. It takes Four years to train an officer to the bear level to lead our military. We have had three and a half years to train all the Iraqi officers that are supposed to be at all levels of their military. We can recruit officers from Saddam’s forces but they have the problem that they were loyal to Saddam and the Baath party. While we are training the Iraqis to take our place we are also trying to keep the peace. That is, or at least should be, a secondary goal, except in primary areas such as the green zone where we are defending the fledgling Iraqi government. Our glorious anti war main stream media does a wonderful job of keeping us isolated from how this is progressing while keeping us informed of the cost in both American and Iraqi dead but they do let drips and drabs come through now and again if you pay attention.

Why is it that I keep getting this mental picture of congess-person Kucinich stamping his foot and saying — “if you don’t stop, I’ll hit you with my purse.”
