Abramoff Ordered to Prison, Clinton Appointee Effectively Ends Further Investigation
Posted on November 14, 2006
Well, the Federal Judge in the Abramoff case has ordered him to prison:
After granting several delays, the federal judge in Florida, who sentenced Abramoff to six years for fraud in a casino boat gambling scheme, has ordered him to report to prison tomorrow.
Why is that so odd? Well, prosecutors wanted more time to question him:
Convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff is scheduled to report to federal prison tomorrow, over the objections of federal prosecutors who say they still need his help to pursue leads on officials he allegedly bribed.
Where was this part of the investigation going?
“six to eight seriously corrupt Democratic senators.”
Who is the Federal Judge? U.S. District Judge Paul Huck
Who appointed him? President William Jefferson Clinton
Well, at least this Clinton appointee had the decency to wait a week after the election to “shut down” the investigation. Shutting it down on November 8, 2006 would have been too obvious.

I don’t understand. What prevents them from continuing to question him?
Sorry, Oak Leaf. I just read the article and you omitted several parts which makes your summary a gross misrepresentation.
- Abramoff has further information regarding high-ranking Republicans too.
- The judge has already granted several delays.
- The judge granted the prosecution’s request that Abramoff be incarcerated at the facility closest to Washington, D.C.
Jeff, who cares which party they come from? If they are corrupt lets find out so we can clean things up.
I agree completely. I just take issue with Oak Leaf’s implication that a judge quashed an investigation for partisan reasons. It’s simply not supported by the cited article.
No, I would say that is Oak Leaf’s “opinion”.
Ok, we can call it that.
He doesn’t ever follow up in the comments, does he? I would be interested to hear how he arrived at that opinion.
Go over to polipundit.com. He may respond to comments over there. I don’t know.
No mention of it over there. I don’t want to threadjack, so I suppose I’ll just have to cross my fingers.
I would not be surprised to hear the judge squashed the investigation to protect Congress. The judge is probably well aware of how much power Congress has over the judicial branch and he doesn’t want Congress looking over his shoulders no more than Congress want the Federal prosecutors of the executive branch look over theirs.
Kerwin,
The investigation isn’t over, regardless of what Oak Leaf implied. The investigators just have to drive a couple hours to talk to him. It really isn’t a significant development.
If abramoff wants to talk, he can.
