The Verdict Is In: Saddam Gets Death Sentence

Update: UN criticizes Saddam Hussein’s death penalty

The UN on Sunday criticized the decision to sentence Saddam Hussein to death, calling upon local authorities to refuse the to hang the ex-leader.

Update: Bush praises the verdict (video)

Death For Saddam! Looks like the ol’ rope and tree justice.

Saddam Hussein has been found guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death.

The former dictator will be hanged, the court in Baghdad’s Green Zone complex ruled.

Saddam was convicted of ordering the deaths of 148 Shia men and teenage boys in the town of Dujail in 1982.

The former Iraqi VP sentenced to life in prison, three others got up to 15 years, and more death sentences including his half brother.

Saddam’s supporters say a firestorm is to come!

SUPPORTERS of Saddam Hussein have warned of a “firestorm” of violence if he is found guilty of crimes against humanity today and sentenced to death.

Iraqi officials ordered the closure of Baghdad’s international airport in a massive security clampdown ahead of the verdict.

While the thugs are threatening violence and riots there is no doubt that for the majority of Iraqis this will bring clousure and celebration! I’m sure that many are wanting to dance in the street! It will be interesting to see how they react! I’m sure there will be some dancing and riots. Hopefully the violence can be kept to a minimum.

Saddam has said he will face death without fear.

A defiant Saddam Hussein shrugged off a possible death sentence, saying he would die without fear and the U.S. occupiers of his country would leave humiliated like they did in Vietnam, his lawyers said on Saturday.

However, Saddam reacted predictably when the verdict came down.

After the verdict was read, a trembling Saddam yelled out, “Life for the glorious nation, and death to its enemies!”

He went off on a tirade yelling that the judge does not decide. He called the judge a traitor and worker for the occupation!

Keep in mind that this is just one of many trials Saddam will face. This will be automatically appealed. Wuzzadem says Automatic appeal? Can’t we just hang him now? You get my amen!

Justin adds:

Obviously, this guilty verdict doesn’t surprise any of us. The Iraqi people have taken justice into their own hands. The execution of Saddam will mean closure to many Iraqis, and while we will be seeing an increase in violence temporarily, this is a huge positive step for Iraq. The death of Saddam is the death of a Dictator.

Also, in an interesting development, former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark was thrown out of the verdict session. We’ll be bringing more information on this as soon as more details are released.

Indeed this is interesting. You can bet that Ramsey Clark (otherwise known as scumbucket traitor) is not too happy. However, as the judge called him a mockery, which he is, Iraqis roared with laughter! Six Meat Buffet says:

On a side note, if Ramsey Clark were any kind of a man, he would take the noose right alongside Saddam as a show of protest and solidarity. But since he’s not, he’ll probably take a six-figure book deal instead, chronicling his beautiful time in Saddam’s garden.

I’m sure the left will question the timing. Meanwhile the demons are sharpening their pitchforks and preparing a special hot spot in hell for this evil former dictator.

The gunfire celbrations begin! Fox is showing video of kids jumping up and down for joy!

Patterico reports that the L.A. Times has doubts. So does the Washington Post.

The story doesn’t really provide any hard evidence that the court has been illegitimate. To the contrary, there is a clear contrast between “justice” under Hussein, in which 148 “defendants” were “sentenced” to death in two weeks — and this trial, which has featured extensive procedural protections, to the point that it has dragged on so long that the world can now snidely comment that the timing is designed to affect U.S. elections.

Right Wing Howler looks into a possible loophole that may cause Saddam to escape justice.

    COOL!
Bet this murderous coward kills himself before justice is carried out. Nonetheless, he’s done.
