Kerry’s Non-Apology To The Military

Update: Kerry Non-Apology Rejected by Pro-Troop Organization
Wow! Just got this email from Move America Forward

STATEMENT BY MELANIE MORGAN, CHAIR – MOVE AMERICA FORWARD

“Your non-apology is not accepted, Senator Kerry.

“John Kerry has done it again! He has sunk to a new low by managing to insult the American people and members of the United States military in his issuance of a non-apology. Rather then apologizing for the hurtful words he used, he instead says he regrets that his words were misinterpreted? [Source: Kerry statement, "I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted…" ]

“So apparently it is the fault of the American public, news media and the men and women of the United States Military for not being smart enough to understand what Senator Kerry meant to say?

“The American public understands what he really said. There is no mistaking his contempt for our troops. He has a long history of name-calling, and now he refuses to apologize for his conduct. Instead he says it’s all our fault.

“Shame on you, Senator Kerry.”

After huge pressure from just about everyone, John Kerry flip flopped from his original vow that he would apologize to no one and decided to “apologize?” Now that the damage is done I leave it up to the troops to decide how sincere they think he was.

As a combat veteran, I want to make it clear to anyone in uniform and to their loved ones: my poorly stated joke at a rally was not about, and never intended to refer to any troop.

I sincerely regret that my words were misinterpreted to wrongly imply anything negative about those in uniform, and I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended.

In my opinion the “apology” should have stopped at this point and it would have been a semi-well worded yet flawed apology from a pressured politician. Yet it seems Kerry still doesn’t know when to shut up. Instead, he goes on to blame Republicans. Oh well, that is to be expected…better than nothing?

It is clear the Republican Party would rather talk about anything but their failed security policy. I don’t want my verbal slip to be a diversion from the real issues. I will continue to fight for a change of course to provide real security for our country, and a winning strategy for our troops.

White House Statement, via Ian:

Sen Kerry’s apology to the troops for his insulting comments came late, but it was the right thing to do. Our military is the best and the brightest, the most courageous and professional or an military in the world and the President is honored to be their Commander-in-Chief.

Greg Tinti:

Not to beat a dead horse here, but as the title of this post suggests, this isn’t an apology for what Kerry said. It’s Kerry expressing regret that, once again, his “words were misinterpreted wrongly” by “right wing nutjobs.”

Remember when Kerry said that American troops were terrorizing Iraqis in their homes on National television? When will he apologize for that? So, do I even have to ask…sincere or arm twisting?

The Anchoress says this is as good as we will get from Kerry.
James Joyner:

John Kerry is sorry that you (like President Bush and/or our troops in Iraq) are too stupid to understand him and, to the extent that you took his words literally and were thus stupidly offended, he apologizes.

Don Surber says, “Apology not accepted!

Kerry is an idiot. He is too stupid to understand how hurtful his words were. He has been coddled too long by first his family and now the media to know that it is what you say that counts, not what you meant to say.

Others not accepting the non-apology:
Mark Levin
Mark Steyn
Right Winged
AJ Strata
The Rottweiller
Indepundit
David Needham says in the comments:

Those words negated the entire “apology” in that he refused to admit his deed. Absent a refusal to admit what he’s done, his “apology” is nothing but weasel words. A deceptive act from start to finish.

The only apology that would have been an apology would for Jean Fraud to say, “I am sorry I said that educational failures end up in Iraq. Yes, I know we have thousands of military personnel serving in Iraq, and that my words were a direct and insulting slander of those military serving in Iraq. I was wrong, and I apologize.”

Absent words to that effect, Jean Fraud continues the slander he began in 1971, without apology.

that was no apology…so Kerry is now two for two in unapologized slanders of U.S. troops…today and in 1971.

I think it’s also really, really funny that at first he openly declared that he absolutely would not apologize for anything. Then, however, AFTER Hillary told him to apologize, he released this attempt at an apology.

Yeh, “absent a refusal” should have omitted the “refusal” given the way my fingers wandered in the rest of that sentence, but yeh, you get the drift. :-)
