Webb said the release of the excerpts was “a Karl Rove campaign tactic” and a “classic example of the way this campaign has worked. It’s smear after smear.”
He defended his fiction as “illuminative.”
“It’s not a sexual act,” Webb told Plotkin regarding the “Lost Soldiers” excerpt. “I actually saw this happen in a slum in Bangkok when I was there as a journalist.”
“The duty of a writer is to illuminate the surroundings,” he added.

The headline on Drudge is of course, “Boy’s Penis in Father’s Mouth ‘Not a Sexual Act,’ Webb Tells Radio Host…”

Well, it isn’t news to me…. as John Hawkins pointed this stuff out long ago.

In case you’re wondering, I did send an email to Drudge on Sept 29, 2006 and Oct 17, 2006. Whether he just didn’t read them, read them and chose not to link, or whether he read them and waited for a timely opportunity to spring them, I don’t know.
Whatever the case may be, I’m still glad to see this info getting out there and all you regular readers of RWN should be glad to know that you got to see at least some of this blockbuster info a full month before people reading the MSM will have heard about it.
Update #1: In my opinion, having this story break big will mean the end of James Webb’s chances to be a Senator. Know why? Because even though it’s fiction, it’s so depraved that a lot of people will have a visceral negative reaction to it — and to Webb.
So, as much as I hate when people, like John Hawkins, don’t get credit for exposing things first…here is what Drudge reveals from the Allen press release on Webb. After this Lorie Byrd has found more.

The Author’s Disturbing Writings Show a Continued Pattern of Demeaning Women
· Some of Webb’s writings are very disturbing for a candidate hoping to represent the families of Virginians in the U.S. Senate.
· Many excellent books about the United States military and wartime service accomplish their purposes, and even win awards, without systematically demeaning women, and without dehumanizing women, men and even children.
· Webb’s novels disturbingly and consistently – indeed, almost uniformly – portray women as servile, subordinate, inept, incompetent, promiscuous, perverted, or some combination of these. In novel after novel, Webb assigns his female characters base, negative characteristics. In thousands of pages of fiction penned by Webb, there are few if any strong, admirable women or positive female role models.
Why does Jim Webb refuse to portray women in a respectful, positive light, whether in his non-fiction concerning their role in the military, or in his provocative novels? How can women trust him to represent their views in the Senate when chauvinistic attitudes and sexually exploitive references run throughout his fiction and non-fiction writings?
· Most Virginians and Americans would find passages such as those below shocking, especially coming from the pen of someone who seeks the privilege of serving in the United States Senate, one of the highest offices in the land:
– Lost Soldiers: “A shirtless man walked toward them along a mud pathway. His muscles were young and hard, but his face was devastated with wrinkles. His eyes were so red that they appeared to be burned by fire. A naked boy ran happily toward him from a little plot of dirt. The man grabbed his young son in his arms, turned him upside down, and put the boy’s penis in his mouth.”

Pretty twisted stuff!!! Dan Riehl doesn’t know what to make of it!
I’m not even sure what to make of it … as someone who has played around with fiction earlier in my writing life, part of me would argue excusing it because it is fiction. At the same time, I don’t know … it does give one pause about the mind that wrote it, especially on top of Webb’s previous comments regarding women.
It isn’t the easist of things to read and certainly isn’t going to go over well with religious folk.
Yeah, there’s no getting away from “[he] turned him upside down, and put the boy’s penis in his mouth.” Once you’re famous for having written something like that, you’re famous for having written something like that. If he beats Allen, they might as well refer to him that way when calling the roll. “…Mr. Obama; Mr. Pryor; Mr. Put the Boy’s Penis in His Mouth…”
Henceforth, forevermore, it shall be seared, seared in our memories.
There are a lot of people all over the country that would find the mind that wrote that unacceptable at the dinner table. That is really what determines a lot of votes: would I like to sit down with this candidate in my home?

What Jay, you don’t find stories about incest (Genesis 19:31-38) and rape (Judges 19) obscene? Reading your post I thought you would object to any fictional story where someone does something bad.

The difference in what the bible contains and the filth that Webb writes is the Bible treats such things as sin.
The comparison of what you find in the Bible and the filthy, misognistic, pedophilia that Webb writes about don’t even begin to compare.
