You only strengthen the extremists by doing so.
You seriously think that the Muslim reaction to the Pope’s remarks, strenghten their position in the eyes of the world?

They can’t just step up and protest or they will be killed, hence you don’t hear much from Muslim moderates (citizens anyway).
So you are suggesting that the free world just keep it’s mouth shut, so as not to upset the Muslims.

A church that has to “apologize” for its own actions has no moral high ground to comment on the morals of others
You consider a ~~religion~~ cult that forces conversion under the threat of death, as holding the “moral high ground” in this situation?

My comments in no way support Islamic extremism. I merely stated the remarks by the Pope only make matters worse. Why do that! You only strengthen the extremists by doing so. Most Middle Eastern Muslims do not live in democracies, they live under dictatorships and repressive theocracies. They can’t just step up and protest or they will be killed, hence you don’t hear much from Muslim moderates (citizens anyway).

In addition the Pope’s quote came from a 14th century Byzantine emperor. Two hundred years later the Catholics were wiping out the Aztecs and the Incas, spreading Chritianity through the New World at the very bloody tip of a sword. By criticizing the Muslims for their history of violence you just have the pot calling the kettle black. It is regretable that the Pope would make such an inflammatory statement during a time of such tension between the Christian and Muslim worlds. Interesting, you are criticizing a religious leader who quoted the truth, spoken by a Byzantine Christian, hundreds of years ago... yet say nothing of a fascist group, who lie, who indiscriminately kill and maim innocent civilians in the name of their god and religion, and you don't consider that "inflammatory." Then followed by his non-apology Why should he apologize for agreeing with what someone else said...especially since it is the truth? He also fails to acknowledge the brutal history of the Catholic Church itself. That's a lie.The Catholic Church acknowledged AND apologized in 2000. Where is the apology of the Muslims? This blog then focuses only on the words and actions of the extreme portion of the Muslim world. DUH!

If terrorism is only supported by a few muslim extremists, then the ‘moderate’ muslims need to speak up and stop letting the ‘extremists’ hide among them.

Even is terrorism was a crime, these theoretical moderates are ‘aiding and abetting’ the extremists.

Someone in his postion should be more tactful than using such a condescending generalization to describe the Muslim world. Then followed by his non-apology, (he was saddened by the reaction to his statement not by what he said). He also fails to acknowledge the brutal history of the Catholic Church itself.

This blog then focuses only on the words and actions of the extreme portion of the Muslim world. This would be like describing Catholics based on the actions of the IRA.

By making statements like that of the Pope you, just provide ammunition for the extreme leaders of the Muslim world who want to depict the West as being anti-Muslim. Politicians either here or there like a good enemy to help consolidate their own power over their people.
