Schwarzenegger Update
The “leaked” tape of Arnie using wicked “ethnic stereotypes” about “hot” Hispanics etc. appears not to have been leaked by anybody — not by Schwarzenegger OR by his opponents. Steve Frank reports that the tape was placed on a webserver without appropriate password protection and so was simply downloaded by someone who knew a bit about how web addresses work.
That still does not tell us why such a personal file was: 1). Made in the first place; or, 2). Placed on a webserver.
So I am still inclined to think that Arnie WANTED the tape to get out — in order to show himself as a good guy not afraid to be politically incorrect.
If so, it seems to have worked. Steve Frank also notes that Arnie has now increased his lead in the polls.
