Does the ACLU still believe in vaccine choice?

Posted on September 13, 2006

Four years ago, the ACLU had the following to say about a vaccination program:

“Smallpox vaccine has risks and getting vaccinated is not a choice to be made lightly — but in America, it should certainly be a choice,” said Barry Steinhardt, Director of the ACLU’s Technology and Liberty Project. “Inoculation is chancy – a significant percentage of those vaccinated against smallpox will become ill and some will even die. By making the plan voluntary, the President has done the right thing for both individual liberty and public health.”

A front page headline in the Detroit News seems to go against this aspect of choice, “Mich. may force girls to get vaccine, Sixth-graders would be required to get shot to prevent cervical cancer.”

Michigan would become the first state to require girls entering sixth grade to receive a vaccine that can prevent cervical cancer, under legislation introduced Tuesday in the Michigan Senate.

A favorite saying of NOW, NARAL and other assorted groups is “My Body, My Life, My Choice.”They even have a little poem about it. I wonder if they believe in “vaccine choice?”

Has the ACLU come out and said whether it’s for or against this legislation?

The left is often a bunch of hypocrites. Planned Parenthood who claims to be pro choice operates in China where women are forced to have abortions. Historically Planned Parenthood supported forced sterilization. Their objective is birth control and they will support anything that furthers that objective. I don’t see them supporting this unless it is some kind of you scratch my back I will scratch your back situation.

What is the rate of women that come down with cervical cancer and what percentage of those die. I do not believe it is very high.
