I have been talking to a bunch of libertarians that vote Republican and they want as little government as possible. I thought conservatives shared the same idea but I could very well be wrong.

Let’s shake up the Republican Party.

Conservatives don’t believe in no government, they believe in government as close to the people as practical so they can be most involved in it. Some things are legitimately to be managed by the government, including state governments.

My reason is that the federal government keeps taking on duties that the U.S. Constitution reserves for the states. I question why the federal government is so much better at managing these tasks that we the people are paying for a whole addition level of bureaucracy. The states and local government have the ability to supply the needs of their people and the federal government needs to butt out and stop micromanaging them. Getting the federal government to voluntarily release the power they have stolen from the states will take a lot of hard work no matter what party in Control of Congress.
