They have not even ratified the treaty that creates the Committee because it is a bastion for democracy, civil and political rights around the world. The Human Rights Committee (unlike the Commission or now the Council), is made up of independent experts, not political representatives. Please don't confuse this valuable Committee with other discredited UN institutions. This is NOT the same sham group – China, Cuba, and Saudi Arabia are NOT on the Committee. They have not even ratified the treaty that creates the Committee because it is a bastion for democracy, civil and political rights around the world.
