Al Qaeda’s Zawahri Threatens Israel In New Video

Update: I just saw part of the video on CNN. A few things to note is the quality improvement of the video. It seems a lot more polished than past videos and it seems he is reading from a prompter. Experts are reviewing it and many think it is a call for attacks or to prepare for some. The images behind him are a change from the usually plain background. It was also noted that his weapon was not beside him like past videos. The man in the left background is the a commander who actually planned 9/11 and was killed in Afghanistan. The man in the right background is unknown. It is being studied on whether he is another jihadist that they consider a martyr or a possible future “martyr.”

Al-Qaida’s No. 2 leader warned in a new videotape released Thursday that the terrorist group would not stand idly by while Israeli bombardments “burn our brothers” in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

In the message broadcast by Al-Jazeera television, Ayman al-Zawahri, second in command to Osama bin Laden, said that al-Qaida now saw “all the world as a battlefield open in front of us.”

The Egyptian-born physician said the Hezbollah and Palestinian battles against Israel would not be ended with “cease-fires or agreements.” The fighting began last month following a Palestinian cross-border raid in which an Israeli soldier was captured, then expanded to Lebanon after Hezbollah militants captured two other soldiers in a raid earlier this month.

“The war with Israel does not depend on cease-fires. … It is a Jihad for God’s sake and will last until (our) religion prevails,” al-Zawahri said. “We will attack everywhere.”

Al-Zawahri wore a gray robe and white turban. A picture of the burning World Trade Center was on the wall behind him along with pictures of two other militants.

Al-Zawahri goes on to state that the killing of Muslims in this war is not just Israel. He also blames the “crusaders” for supplying weapons and vows that everyone will pay a price.

The Site Institute also reports on a Taliban message of support for Hezbollah, urging Muslims to unite against “Zionist and the American oppressions,” or “then the Muslim nations will deeply sink into the hole of slavery.”
