ACLU Harassing Sheriff For Enforcing The Law

Posted on July 23, 2006

The ACLU, who love illegal aliens, oppose border control, and harass the Minutemen are now going after the local sheriffs for enforcing the law and arresting illegal aliens.

The Intelligencer

What part of “illegal alien” does the American Civil Liberties Union not understand? And why is it harassing the Ohio County Sheriff’s department for — of all things — enforcing the law?

Sheriff Tom Burgoyne and his department have achieved a high profile in terms of apprehending illegal aliens. Given Ohio County’s location astride Interstate 70, a primary east-west route for illegal as well as law-abiding travelers, that isn’t surprising. But to the ACLU, it apparently is distressing.

I may not hip on the current liberal lingo, but I thought they were called “undocumented workers” now. Isn’t that the latest terminology that goes with that ever so popular quote that they do the jobs Americans won’t do? Anyway, the ACLU are once again displaying just how dangerous they are. They sent this Sheriff one of those infamous letters informing him that they will be “monitoring” how they handle enforcing illegal immigration. The stupidity here is that they are harassing law enforcement for doing exactly what they are supposed to do…enforce the law.

They claim that their “concern” is that the law enforcement does not have “specialized training” on immigration law. What kind of specialized training would one need for that? If they are here illegally they are breaking the law. Once you find that out you arrest them just like anyone else that breaks the law.

By necessity, training of sheriff’s deputies in most cases involves generalities concerning the law and how to enforce it. We doubt that the ACLU would question the department’s ability to make arrests for counterfeiting, for example, simply because deputies have little specialized training concerning the offense.

The ACLU’s complaint, as voiced by state Director Andrew Schneider, seems to be that any action by deputies against illegal aliens “often leads to racial profiling.”

Imagine that. Indeed, when Burgoyne’s deputies conduct a routine traffic stop and find themselves dealing with Latin Americans who do not speak English and are behaving suspiciously, they tend to ask questions. In almost all situations, illegal aliens admit freely that they are in this country illegally, Burgoyne noted. We have heard of no situations in which Hispanics here legally have been carted off to jail.

Burgoyne and his deputies are merely enforcing the law to the best of their abilities. The ACLU should stop harassing them for arresting criminals.

If it is a terrorist, pervert, or criminal you can be certain the ACLU will defend it. And whenever you hear the ACLU whining and complaining you can bet that someone did something right for America.

The ACLU has an interesting idea that police officers must have specialized training for every law they enforce. It must take a ton of tax payers money just to teach an officer to properly apply traffic fines. :-)
