City Poised To Evict Boy Scouts Council
Posted on July 22, 2006
Mayor Street will evict the Boy Scouts’s Cradle of Liberty Council from its city-owned Center City headquarters, or make the organization pay fair-market rent, unless it stops discriminating against gays.
The mayor’s intention – which would apparently bring to an end a dispute that has been roiling for more than three years over scouting’s policies toward gays – was made clear in a letter written by City Solicitor Romulo L. Diaz Jr. to William T. Dyer III, president and chief executive officer of Cradle of Liberty Council.
Diaz is the fellow who has been trying to shut down Geno’s Steaks.
I don’t think the ACLU are involved in this, but it is definitely a trend they started and help perpetuate.
Update: The Real Ugly American has sends more details on this.

Well, that’s the problem with using government owned facilities… you have to play by their rules.
I have no problem with this decision. Private organizations should find private buildings to have their meetings.
This is a great example of the dangers of mixing with the Beast we call government.
I see a problem and that is that government is discrimination based on political viewpoint. That is a violation of the freedom of speech. I know if a government did this to a pro choice group that planned parenthood would take them to court and the ACLU would be backing PP because that is what they did on the choose life plates.
The Boy Scouts are free to believe whatever they want to believe, but if they’re going to discriminate, they shouldn’t receive any government dollars. It’s not a matter of freedom of speech here. They can discriminate all they want, but they can’t expect to receive government funding.
“Well, that’s the problem with using government owned facilities… you have to play by their rules.”
Like paying rent.
Let me understand this Mr Rational it is alright for your side to discriminate but it is not alright for those on the other side to discriminate.
Mind homosexuality was considered a crime for over two hundred years before some activist judges decided it was not. It is infact a crime against the natural law right to life and health.
So to a patriotic American the Boy Scouts discrimination is justified why yours is not. Go kiss up to your UN Master.
Mr. Rational,
I said ” Go kiss up to your UN Master. ”
I believe the U.N. is pulling your strings but that does not give me an excuse to be rude. Please accept my apologies.
