Founder of Minutemen May Run For President

Posted on April 30, 2006

This news via WND will surely get the ACLU up and arms if it turns out to be true. We are still a few years off from the 2008 Presidential run, but many Conservatives are talking about staying home already. The main issue they are angry about is our borders. Wouldn’t it be interesting if a a third party could actually get a foothold this time around? With the liberals offering no solutions and only opposition, and many Conservatives dissatisfied with the current Republican party, it may just be possible.

Jim Gilchrist, the founder of the Minuteman Project, is considering a run for president in 2008 with the Constitution Party.

Gilchrist has just returned from Florida where he met with the party’s national committee.

Chairman James Clymer told WorldNetDaily the party was excited about the possibility of Gilchrist as its marquis candidate.

“Yes, indeed we are interested,” Clymer said. “Gilchrist spoke to us last weekend in Tampa and our people asked Jim then if he would be the candidate. We think it would be wonderful if Jim Gilchrist would seriously consider being our presidential candidate.”

Gilchrist told WND the only candidate he would support as the Republican Party presidential nominee in 2008 was Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo.

“If John McCain enters the race for president,” Gilchrist said. “I will definitely run. John McCain should have forfeited his right to run for President on the Republican Party the moment he put his name on immigration legislation with Sen. Ted Kennedy.”

Gilchrist and the Constitution Party both agree on the need to secure our southern border with Mexico. Commenting on the street demonstrations planned on May 1, Gilchrist said they are nothing more than “a declaration that we are no longer a nation governed by the rule of law, but that we are being ruled by mob rule.”

Asked whether he felt President Bush’s “guest worker” program or the administration’s “pathway to citizenship” were reasonable compromises, Gilchrist reacted sharply: “The Republican Party is going to pay a huge price for pandering to what they think is going to be an illegal-alien vote and for their reckless disregard for the rule of law. The Republican Party has sold out our sovereignty.”

Gilchrist told WND that he thought his third party candidacy could be viable, noting “the country is ready for a third party candidate, just like the country was ready for Ross Perot in 1996.”

Gilchrist was harshly critical of Bush’s leadership on the immigration issue.

“The president should resign,” Gilchrist asserted. “The Congress should begin impeachment proceedings if President Bush will not resign. President Bush has shown he is incompetent to handle his job. It amounts to dereliction of duty that President Bush has left our border with Mexico wide open while supposedly he is fighting a war on terror.”

Read the whole thing.

Quite interesting. With fence riding “maverick” RINO contenders tossing the First Amendment out the window, and many Conservatives sick of the Republican party pandering on the important issue of border control, it just might be time for a third party to make an impact. Regardless of whether one could actually win, it would add relevent issues to the debate are desperately needed. The Minutemen are stepping up to do the job our government is failing to do. When the people are loud and clear with their voice to the government, and the government doesn’t respond, they just might want to elect someone that does listen. You have to run on more than just one issue, so we would have to see his views on other issues. Of course, running on a third party platform will more likely drain enough votes away from the Republicans to put a Democrat in power. However, that possibility is one that should wake some of the GOP up. Sadly, it probably won’t.

Anti-Idiotarian Rottweiller says Tom Tancredo in 08! I agree. Notice that Jim said he might run, IF Tom Tancredo does not.

Good timing on an announcement like this, of course today is the day of the big boycott. I don’t think there could be a better day to promote our friends’ Guard the Borders Blogburst. Michelle vents.

Three cheers for Gilchrist, and ten more for Tancredo.

Some might argue that this would siphon votes away from the GOP candidate and elect Hillary. Well, if that GOP candidate is McCain, Frist, or some other Teddy Toady, then what difference does it make?

A cowardly, dishonest, self-serving, lying, politically correct American Quisling. That’s what we would get with Hillary, that’s what we would get with McCain. Meanwhile, ten’s of millions of illegal immigrants would pour across the border for their amnesty and citizenship.

So, unless we do get someone like Tancredo as the GOP nominee, then bring on Gilchrist.

I don’t think he’d stand much of a chance, but out of principle, he may definitely be worth voting for. I’m a teacher currently, and an ESL teacher to boot. You can imagine that I’ll be getting a front-row seat to a lot of shenanigans tomorrow…

I am hoping the Constitution Party gets a candidate on the ballet for office of governor here in Illinois. Randall C. Stufflebeam is now attempting to get the signatures he needs to do just that. It will do no harm to the true conservative cause as we have a progressive liberal running against a progressive liberal in conservative clothing on the ballet for governor. I will vote Democrat before I will vote for a traitor even though they are unclean. Contact Randall at StufflebeamRC@RunRandyRun.com and volunteer to help him get on the ballet. If you believe in the natural freedoms granted us by the Creator then you will do it and strike a blow against the despotic progressive liberal movement that has taken over the Democrat party and has corrupted the Republican party. A win in Illinois can aid Jim Gilchrist and the Minutemen in defending our borders.

What do you guys think about Rudy running? Do you think he leans too far left? Gilchrist would just help elect Hillary. If she get in, she won’t leave for 8 years. Think about it people. 8 years of Hillary chipping away at our freedoms. Especially if the bone headed repubs lose the mid-term this year and the Dems control both branches until ‘08, then Billary gets in… I just can’t imagine. Of course Mcbrain-dead is no better.
