ACLU’s Romero Given Free Air Time to Bash Bush Admin (VIDEO)

Posted on April 19, 2006

Anthony Romero, Executive Director of the ACLU, appeared on Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report last night.

Colbert whose show mocks The O’Reilly Factor, didn’t copy the “no spin zone” mantra when he let Romero spin an obvious tangent. Colbert seriously confronted Romero and wondered why he was against the constitutional right soldiers have to be quartered in strangers’ homes. Romero, however, went on an unrelated topic and whined about how Rumsfeld is not handling this war right and he allows torture – oh my!

    Truly sickening.

That is not a constitutional right of soldiers. It’s the constitutional right of citizens not to have soldiers quartered in their homes. Romero said he was in favor of the third amendment, not against it.

Everything he said was pretty consistent with the ACLU’s stated positions. Nothing too surprising. I just love Colbert though. I don’t know how he can keep a straight face during his show.

Sometimes he can’t. A couple days ago Reza Azlan (sp?) was on (promoting the book No god but God) and Colbert lost it briefly. It was a great interview.
