"1) Doesn’t the phrase “under God” in the Pledge kind of violate the First Amendment, too?"

No, unless you are going to accuse every American politician that has ever lived of violating the establishment clause, since every president in history had to swear in on the Holy Bible, clearly an endorsement of religion. Also, every Congressman who has ever lived has prayed before every session with the rest of his/her peers, or at least shut up while others did so. A clear endorsement of religion. Face it: the establishment clause doesn't mean what you want it to.

He's probably talking about the Pledge case from California a few years ago. You can read about it here: http://www.aclu.org/scotus/2003/13914prs20040324.html.

The court's decision was ultimately overturned on a technicality. Anyway...
	1) Doesn't the phrase "under God" in the Pledge kind of violate the First Amendment, too?

	2) "Banned" is not the right word, either. Kids are free to say the Pledge on their own time, just like they can pray on their own time. Forcing kids to say it or having them leave the room while the rest of the class says it is where the problem lies.

"I would thinking having the Pledge banned in public school is a pretty big violation of certain free speech rights, wouldn’t you?"

I would think that if that claim has any validity, you'll easily be able to provide some factual backing for it. Which public schools have banned the Pledge of Allegiance, and what specific role did the ACLU play in events?

Once again you've listed a bunch of facts linking early ACLU members to the Communist Party. Once again I'll ask, so what?

This nation was founded by slave owners. Does that make all of us Americans here in 2006 evil by association?

I definitely agree with Mr. Meatbrain. If anything I'd say we have more freedom to exercise our rights because of the ACLU!

"I am totally shocked at the notion that many people don’t even know that this very organization is destroying their rights."

Then I have a very simple question: Which of my rights can I no longer exercise because of direct action by the ACLU?
