Abdul Rahman Seeks Asylum
Posted on March 27, 2006
An Afghan man who faced the death penalty for converting from Islam to Christianity has appealed for asylum in another country, the United Nations said Monday. U.N. spokesman Adrian Edwards said the world body was working with the Afghan government to meet the request by Abdul Rahman, 41.
“Mr. Rahman has asked for asylum outside Afghanistan,” Edwards said. “We expect this will be provided by one of the countries interested in a peaceful solution to this case.”
Big hat tip to Michelle Malkin who has been all over this important issue. I can not say this any better than she does….
We, a nation whose founders embraced religious freedom as the “first liberty,” should be first in line to offer Abdul Rahman a safe haven.
Absolutely! We should welcome him here with open arms, and I hope more countries make the offer too. This would send a strong message that we truly are the beacon of freedom. However, the world needs to demand that this injustice in Islamic countries no longer be tolerated at all. That is the strong statement we should be making loud and clear, and all of the free world should be singing along!
Polipundit has a good post on Abdul and the entire situation.

Yes we should be first in line to offer asylum, but that wouldn’t solve the problem. Sure this man would be saved, as he should be. But what happens next time?
You are absolutely right Gribbit. Saving this man would be a noble thing to do, and a loud message to the Isamotards, but it would not put an axe to the root of the problem. I don’t know what would.
I hope the left oppose us granting him asylum. I really do. It would blow their whole case for open borders right out of the water.
