My fiance and I noticed a tiny bunch of scraggly, aging activists standing with their signs on the outskirts of Philly yesterday. We also noticed, standing across the road from them, a man holding a sign alerting motorists to the clearance sale at Strawbridges.

We concluded that the guy holding the sale sign was (a) providing much more of a community service than the protestors, and (b) more likely to be able to explain his sign and justify why he was holding it. (Certainly, he would never have mistaken the peace and Mercedes symbols.) Advertising a sale is more logical and useful than exhorting drivers-by to "honk for peace."
