South Dakota governor signs abortion ban
Its officially against the law to kill an unborn baby in South Dakota. And so the countdown begins for a legal challenge. Who will challenge it first? Looks like Planned Parenthood are calling dibs. Who will file the next friend of the court brief?
South Dakota’s governor on Monday signed into law a bill banning nearly all abortions, setting up a court fight aimed at challenging the 1973 U.S. Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion in the United States.
The bill would make it a crime for doctors to perform an abortion unless it was necessary to save the woman’s life. It would make no exception in cases of rape or incest.
Planned Parenthood, which operates the state’s only abortion clinic, in Sioux Falls, has pledged to challenge the measure in court.
