Anti-US Taped Teacher Hires ACLU Attorney
Posted on March 2, 2006
Michelle Malkin tells us today about a Bush bashing highschool teacher, Jay Bennish, that came unhinged. She has the entire transcript of his America hating tirade at her site. Here is a little sample.
Who is probably the single most violent nation on planet Earth?!
Unidentified brainwashed student interjects: We are.
The United States of America! And we’re a democracy. Quote-unquote.
Who has the most weapons of mass destruction in the world? The United States.
Who’s continuing to develop new weapons of mass destruction as we speak?!
The United States. So, why does Mr. Bush think that other countries that are democracies won’t wanna be like us? Why does he think they’ll just wanna be at peace with each other?! What makes him think that when the Palestinians get their own state that they won’t wanna preemptively invade Israel to eliminate a potential threat to their security just like we supposedly did in Iraq?! Do you see the dangerous precedent that we have set by illegally invading another country and violating their sovereignty in the name of protecting us against a potential future–sorry–attack
You can listen to it here, thanks to one sharp kid, Sean Allen, that decided to record it.
Slapstick Politics has been covering it extensively. They report about a student walkout over it, some in support of the teacher, and some protesting against him. The teacher has been suspended.
But now, he has hired an ACLU lawyer. Not just any ACLU lawyer, but the same lawyer Ward Churchill had, David Lane.
The anti-US Aurora Colorado high school teacher who was suspended after being taped making anti-US remarks is said to have hired an ACLU attorney. Attorney David Lane, who represented self-avowed anti-US Professor Ward Churchill, is said to be representing Jay Bennish.
Bennish, who was taped making comments to his students such as “The American flag is the same as the Nazi flag”, capitalism is “at odds with human rights” and that President Bush’s January State of the Union address included “things that Adolph Hitler used to say” was placed on temporary suspension Wednesday.
*Information was disseminated by student Sean Allen and his father, who appeared on Thursday’s Sean Hannity Radio show.

Michelle Malkin talks about the lawsuit.
Here is what the lawyer has to say.
Lane said that Bennish was just trying to get his students to think.
“He starts out every semester saying, ‘I am going to throw stuff out there that I don’t even necessarily believe to be true. I am just going to provoke you guys into thinking and speaking and analyzing,’” said Lane. He also said the student took the teacher’s comments out of context.
“This has been going on for years in his class and no one has complained about it because this is what it’s all about: (to) get these kids talking, (to) get these kids thinking, (to) get these kids debating the point,” said Lane.
Expose the Left has the video of Sean Allen, the kid that taped him, on Hannity and Colmes from last night.

Theres been extensive coverage on how Universities are indoctrinating America’s youth..guess theyr’e starting them even younger these days………sheesh..and all they got was suspended eh?
Public Education has always been the pre-requisite to the Communist Indoctrination Centers of America, better known as Universities.
Gribbit, I couldn’t agree with you more.
The fact that this teacher was a geography teacher and shouldn’t have been taking up class time to discuss politics never even enters the picture.
Funny thing how Bennish knew to call the ACLU so quickly, makes you really see his agenda clearly.
Scrtaching Post – From what I have read, this guy was the GEOGRAPHY teacher.
If he was the history or political science teacher, he may have an argument here but he teaches geography.
Freedom of speech and curricular speech in the classroom as governed by the school are not one in the same.
Who would the ACLU sue if the math teacher gave a one sided lecture in favor of abortion…..anyone want place a bet?
I sent the following in an email to the school’s pricipal:
Principal Frieler,
Today I both read a transcript and listened to the audio tape of Mr. Bennish’s rant and I am appalled that this is even a question. This man was to be teaching Geography from the information available but yet he was ranting on a subject matter that more resembled Political Science. On top of that, it was all about his personal political views which, to say the least, makes Howard Dean seem like a hard line Conservative.
You have a responsibility to the people of your community to offer an unbiased education to the children in your care. Employing this man in my opinion is neither unbiased or educational. It more resembles Communist indoctrination. You would be in a better position to terminate the employment of this individual and assign a supervisory level educator to explain what was incorrect about his teachings to address the damage created by this “person”. You will also give the nation a better view of your educational system by showing that teachers will not be allowed to bring their personal political opinions into the classroom.
I cannot communicate the level of outrage I feel over this. You need to deal with this. And the nation is watching.
I heard an interview with one of his former students last night and he said that Bennish didn’t even use the required books in his class because there were “written by rich men.” He also would word questions on his tests like, “Roosevelt was an imperialist blah blah blah. List examples of this.” I went to high school here in California and we didn’t even get this type of stuff.
What I’d like to know if this is something that is going on all around the country and if parents are unaware about it. I find this simply –shocking
