ACLU Again Opposes Anti Terrorism Precautions
Posted on February 6, 2006
First it was the college bowls, then the Superbowl, and now on to the Pro Bowl. The ACLU is again opposing planned searches of spectators attending next week’s gathering of the NFL’s best players. The NFL announced that all Pro Bowl ticket holders will be subjected to a pat-down at the gate. This is to ensure that no-one enters the festivities with the intention to cause harm to others.
If I were Osama and the boys, I’d pick a perceived soft target which would cause the most damage at one time. A sporting venue is such a target. The NFL, MLB, NASCAR, and the NBA are all sports in which the spectators gather in large numbers. Along with NCAA sporting events, professional sports gather thousands of people in one place all with their guard down. They are there to have a good time and watch their favorite athletes compete on the field of battle knowing that at the end of the day, everyone walks out alive. And it is the responsibility of those who promote such activities to protect those who compete as well as those who pay the ticket price to attend.
But as with all the other major sporting events of this past year, the ACLU is again opposing pat-downs of spectators attending the Pro Bowl. This is the reactionary mentality as opposed to the pro-active mentality that this nation should be adopting. If the NFL were to capitulate again to the will of the ACLU in their twisted ideas of national security, it will be only a matter of time before Islamic terrorists sneak into a sports venue to deliver an airborne biological agent. Look what happened in Japan with the Sarin or GB (O-Isopropyl methylphosphonofluoridate) gas attacks on the train system. Imagine this being delivered in several sections of a football stadium at a major event like the Pro Bowl or Superbowl. Those thousands of people would then carry that agent out into the world and infect hundreds of thousands if not millions more.
It is the opinion of us here at Stop The ACLU, that the intent of the ACLU is to assist the terrorists in destroying this nation. They have already shown that national security is not a priority in their twisted logic. And their opposition to the pat-downs is a further display of their wish that we not exist as we do.
President Bush put the nations of the world on notice in 2001. Either you are with us or you are against us. I feel that he made one error in this announcement. He should have made the announcement to the ACLU and other liberal groups prior to addressing the nations of the world.
So what does the ACLU say about these pat-downs?
“Football fans should not have to surrender their rights at the stadium gate,” said Vanessa Chong, executive director of the ACLU of Hawaii.
They aren’t surrendering their rights. They have agreed to submit to the restrictions of the venue by making their ticket purchase. And the safety of others attending the event is priority #1. And in a post September 11th world, that means increased security.
“The NFL’s pat-down policy amounts to a fishing expedition where thousands of innocent football fans are going to be searched in order to find the guilty few,” Chong said.
They aren’t fishing for anything. They are making it known, that if you attempt to sneak in forbidden items, that they will be searching for those items. The announcement of the action would at very least, would put those who would attempt to make and effort to attack the venue on notice that the possibility of their success is nil.
The NFL doesn’t want to find anything. The announcement is proof positive of that in itself. The ACLU is opposing the action for the sake of opposing it.

“They aren’t surrendering their rights. They have agreed to submit to the restrictions of the venue by making their ticket purchase.”
How many read those restrictions prior to purchase?
Gasp!
Maybe they should change their name from the NFL to the NSA!!!!
