There has been some great debate in the Senate minus the partisan jabs from the Democrats. The public supports Alito, the majority of the Senate supports Alito, the President supports Alito. He should be confirmed without any more delay.

Don't worry Louise. It seems to me that the full Senate will do the right thing and confirm. There are still a few RINO's out there who will fold eventually as well (although I resent them taking this long). The debate has been excellent form McCain, Cornyn, even Specter. Confirm Alito.

I hope you are right, Andrew. I hope Alito does receive the same amount of support as Roberts on the Senate floor. If he doesn't, then we know it is for partisan reasons since Alito is the MOST QUALIFIED nominee in over 70 years. I hope the moderate Dem Senators who have yet to decide on a vote, will vote based upon what his/her constituency wants and not be persuaded by partisan politics. The public clearly supports the nomination of Judge Sam Alito!

This partisan vote is not surprising at all. He was not voted against because he was unqualified. Senate Dems voted against him because of purely political reasons. I would not expect the all of the Senate Dems to vote against him. I think Alito will get a similar level of support as Roberts received. As such a highly qualified nominee, I cannot see how many Senators could vote against him.

There definitely should be no surprise that the vote was straight down party lines. In a few days, Judge Alito will be confirmed by the entire Senate, and SCOTUS will benefit from his wisdom and knowledge of the law for years to come, while those voting no on the committee vote will be long forgotten.

Judge Alito, Like Judge Roberts, is highly qualified. It was almost comical to see how much brighter, better prepared, and more reasonable the Judges were than the radical left Democrats on the Judicary Committee. A few RINOs on the Committee also need a swift kick, but that's for another time. Bravo to President Bush for fine nominees.

I don't think there are any surprises today regarding the vote coming out of the Judiciary Committee. It seems quite clear that Judge Alito--the most qualified nominee in over 70 years--will be confirmed to the Supreme Court. It's just a shame that more of our Senators can't see through the muddy partisan waters to confirm Judge Alito.
