Update: The Rottweiller weighs in!
Is the ACLU in contact with terrorists overseas? Well, of course they are! Now it seems they are paranoid of getting caught! They now plan to sue!
Saying that the Bush administration’s illegal spying on Americans must end, the American Civil Liberties Union today filed a first-of-its-kind lawsuit against the National Security Agency seeking to stop a secret electronic surveillance program that has been in place since shortly after September 11, 2001.
“President Bush may believe he can authorize spying on Americans without judicial or Congressional approval, but this program is illegal and we intend to put a stop to it,” said ACLU Executive Director Anthony D. Romero. “The current surveillance of Americans is a chilling assertion of presidential power that has not been seen since the days of Richard Nixon.”The lawsuit was filed on behalf of a group of prominent journalists, scholars, attorneys, and national nonprofit organizations (including the ACLU) who frequently communicate by phone and e-mail with people in the Middle East. Because of the nature of their calls and e-mails, they believe their communications are being intercepted by the NSA under the spying program. The program is disrupting their ability to talk with sources, locate witnesses, conduct scholarship, and engage in advocacy. The program, which was first disclosed by The New York Times on December 16, has sparked national and international furor and has been condemned by lawmakers across the political spectrum.
In addition to the ACLU, the plaintiffs in today’s case are:
Authors and journalists James Bamford, Christopher Hitchens and Tara
McKelveyAfghanistan scholar Barnett Rubin of New York University’s Center on
International Cooperation and democracy scholar Larry Diamond, a fellow
at the Hoover InstitutionNonprofit advocacy groups NACDL, Greenpeace, and Council on American
Islamic Relations, who joined the lawsuit on behalf of their staff and
membership“The prohibition against government eavesdropping on American citizens is well-established and crystal clear,” said ACLU Associate Legal Director Ann Beeson, who is lead counsel in ACLU v. NSA. “President Bush’s claim that he is not bound by the law is simply astounding. Our democratic system depends on the rule of law, and not even the president can issue illegal orders that violate Constitutional principles.”
Note special emphasis on this line:
“Because of the nature of their calls and e-mails, they believe their communications are being intercepted by the NSA under the spying program.”
The left are in full attack mode. So, while our military fights the good fight, the ACLU are sueing over an inconvenience in its ability to talk to the very people who want to kill us all. Like I said before, the ACLU’s slogan of “Keep America Safe and Free” is an absolute lie. They care more about the imaginary rights of our enemies than any kind of safety for America. They have done absolutely nothing for America’s safety, and everything in their power to fight the efforts to protect America!

That the ACLU is communicating with those being watched by the NSA is probable. That CAIR is in communication with known and wanted terrorists and/or those that know their whereabouts is a given.
To be able to hide behind protections that are not a given is the height of ludicrous thinking, and those in the ACLU, CAIR and any other organization that talks with people suspected of being enemies of our country should fear for their own freedom.
If you are caught dealing with terrorists you should go to jail. The ACLU has refused to take money that had the restriction of not being used to aid terrorist organizations because they SUPPORT those that we fight against.
THE ACLU IS A TREASONOUS ORGANIZATION!!!!!
It’s members should be jailed for further questioning.
If you don’t believe me go check out this page right here
Good golly, the Democratic Party could save a lot of time and money by having all their press releases come out of the ACLU.
These people must be stopped.
The American Civil Lunatics Union knows no bounds in its quest for truth, justice, and the Amerikan way. Suing is a national pastime. Hopefully, the courts will see the suit as frivolous and toss it with a scathing retort to the ACLU.
Terrorism is the ultimate in unconventional warfare and requires unconventional means to fight it. There is a difference between fair and illegal. Something the ACLU should learn.
This seems like another instance where it is more important for the ACLU to protect the rights of the Terrorist than to protect those of us they want to kill!
I want the ACLU to sue Ray Nagin who- in his blatant preference for chocolate- has revelaed himslef as rascist against vanella.
Rosenbergs’ Granddaughter Sues NSA Over Spying…
This is interesting.

Re: Blog For All
Yeah! Let’s do to them what they do to others. Lawsuits filed nation wide against the ACLU. The legal fees alone will bankrupt them.
It will also expose them for the lunatics that they are. It is not only time to Stop the ACLU, it is time to eradicate them.
Rich, if the people speak out against an oppressive entity such as the ACLU, then they ARE the dissent!
As one who signed up with the ACLU in response to the illegal Bush administration’s unconscionable actions and proudly supports them, I must say this site is a breath of foul air.
The ACLU isn’t oppresive. It promotes freedoms. Do you want an unchecked leadership making up rules ad they go along without visibility or accountability. There was a perfectly good and legal wiretap mechanism before this.
Others will dissent with your opinion about the ACLU being Opressive, I hope you can be tolerant to those views. The founders put plenty of checks and balances when they established our Nation, and the ACLU was not one of them. America did fine without them before, and will do fine without them once they are gone.
Promoting freedom is not defending the very enemies that threaten it, at least not in my book.
It’s about time we fight back
against the ACLU.They along with
liberal media,[anything liberal]
are ruining this country and what
it was founded on little by little. They won’t stop until all the values and traditions that most Americans grew up with are made
obsolete. Add insult ot injury, its our tax dollars paying for the
suits they bring forth. Thankyou

Feel free to stop breathing it. Insulting people with opposing views seems to be a requirement of true liberalism.

Its still there. There is nothing illegal about what Bush is doing. They only tap those phones that were in communication with terrorists. The debate, thanks to the ACLU, is being misconstrued in an attempt to draw support to the Dems who, despite Bush’s dropping approval, still can’t get any for themselves. The ACLU is nothing more than political activism, and despite sporatic battles in support of conservative people, that doesn’t cancel out their treason.
Granted, the ACLU may not be perfect, but what other comparably powerful advocate exists to protect our civil liberties and help keep the government out of our lives? They may have a liberal agenda, actually, I don’t think there’s any denying it, but as an advocate of small government, I would much rather have an overly liberal organization working to protect our fundamental rights, as guaranteed by the US constitution, then an overly powerful government with little regard for individual liberties. The ACLU is an important counterforce in this dialectic.
CAIR and Green Peace, both with ties to those who promote Islamism (establishment of the worldwide caliphate) are in on this one. ‘Nuff said!
Rich, I am not against dissent. The ACLU is. It is one of the most Anti-American groups in this nation. According to you, they protect freedom. Freedom of religion? Freedom of pedophelia? Freedom of terrorism as a political expression? Freedom of children versus parental authority? Freedom of education?
In case after case that they ahve filed, they have promoted a chilling effect on freedom or they have promoted total freedom with no restraint.
Freedom and liberty coincide with responsibility and restraint, thus the need for laws in an orderly society. The ACLU represents anarchy.
Hell yes, I’m in. The ACLU is interfering with the safety of my family and the United States of America!
>>If you are caught dealing with terrorists you should go to jail.
Sure are a lot of cowards around.
Glad to see the ACLU standing up to protect the Constitution, while others are pissing in their pants, ready to throw away our liberty because they’re scared of a bunch of illiterate guys with box cutters.
If the terrorists want to come after me or my family or my town, I’ll defend myself. If I’m killed, I’ll hope someone will avenge me better than Bush has done (Bin Laden, anyone?)
But I’ll die before I surrender the part of our great nation that makes us better than the rest. Sure, freedom is hard. It means that the police and the CIA and the NSA have to work harder because they have to work within the limits of the constitution. But I believe we’re good enough to prevail AND keep our Constitution.
Don’t you?
ACLU si!
