To answer his question, the ACLU gets an insane amount of money from a number of large corporations. It could operate quite handily on private donations alone, which means it doesn't matter how low its reputation sinks -- like roaches and Keith Richards, it's not going away. You have to like a fat, vulgar, and probably drunken guy in a bathrobe who wonders aloud how others manage to pay their rent.
