Spamming Trolls
It seems that we have a resident spammer. Someone who has been known to use up to 3 different IP addresses to this point; and uses multiple user names and various fraudulent email addresses and urls. What should we do with this POS? Should we attempt to ban all of his known IPs? Should we do nothing and allow this POS to continue to fill our comments sections with bloviated idiocy which he has on occasion argued against using a different user name?
To this point we have been able to identify 3 IPs being used and 45 different user names. IPs are 65.34.241.167, 164.58.253.45, 68.235.229.221. Names range from Beaming Visionary to all of the characters from the Simpson’s and has taken positions on both sides of issues.
Now this individual may be suffering from a mental disorder, I don’t know. But one thing is for sure, he has a need to use our forum to exercise his multiple personalities. Something that he does to extent. This is not a matter of debating opposing view points which is something that Jay likes to foster, but rather an individual who gets his rocks off causing trouble. It is amazing that we have even tracked comments by this individual in which he opposed himself.
It is my opinion that this individual needs some serious medication. Some Lithium and some Depakote come to mind. Along with electroshock therapy and a padded cell.
So I leave it to you campers, what should we do with this psycho? And BV or whoever you are today or this minute, you’re input does not count so don’t try.

I put those IP’s in the blacklist. Don’t know what else to do. I don’t have time for idiots like him. People can civilly debate issues in the comments, that is what they are for. This guy was not civil, and was not fostering any kind of debate at all. He was simply being an a**.

I put a bayesian filter on my comment code, and it’s helped limit the spam. They’re getting clever in posting URLs in legitimate looking addresses. The only problem with filtering IPs is you can ban a whole state when doing that (I banner an IP on another site, and it affected one ISP for a good portion of Connecticut).
Just ignore him. He/it will go away eventually.

Actually Ogre, I have, but, this guy has left in excess of 110 comments using 45 different user names.
We of the planet Xenon have seen your troubles and will send a saucer down for the miscreant. When we have our hands on him (did I tell you that each of us has 438 hands?) we will subject this troll to unimaginable probing and possibly remove that person’s reproductive equipment to prevent this seemingly abberant behavior from spreading out. 65.34.241.167 and 68.235.229.221 both seem to originate in southeast Florida and are registered to Comcast and Adelphia.
164.58.253.45, appears to be registered to the “Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education”. Perhaps that is a college account?

All of these registrants have an abuse contact. You can get that info via the “Search WHOIS Info” links on the IP Locator results.
Whether or not the poster is spoofing IPs, these registrants need to be made aware that someone is engaging in abusive behavior while using their IPs — behavior that could result in the range of IPs being nominated to a blacklist for persistent spammers/abusers.
I usually don’t have a problem with someone who will passionately (even profanely) defend a differing point of view. But, when they resort to multiple logins and IPs — then they have left the entire realm of “discussion” and are simply playing games.
Personally? I’d go ahead and block the entire range of IPs for each subnet (just the subnet) he’s posting from for an unannounced period of time to see if the problem abates.

I have removed the comment made by our resident spammer, another IP labled as spam.
Absolutely not Commie, you see that your comments are always here. As long as you can civilly debate, you are welcome. If you want to mindlessly insult, and name call, that does not foster civil debate. There was a discussion that seems to have been removed from a thread of Kender’s where this person admitted that they were not here to debate, only to pester and annoy.
Civil disagreements are welcome here. If you want them addressed by me, I would like the proper respect that this forum belongs to me. IF you want to call me a blathering idiot, retarded redneck, etc…expect to be ignored by me. If you want to discuss an issue, and debate it without resorting to such childish methods…you are more than welcome here.

I’m actually rather disappointed. BV was my gauge on how well the debate was going. You see, they start out with a lot of flare and fact twisting, presenting it in a way that makes you think they know what they are talking about. Once you begin to out argue them all of a sudden their next post and many after are nothing but insults to your character and intelligence. That is when you know you are winning. You know you’ve won the debate whenever they insult you one last time, then inform you that you have been out argued. They then justify this by saying their arguments are way over your head, but they’ve proven you wrong, you’re just in denial. That is when you know you have crushed their arguments to bits. So its rather a shame that it comes down to having to ban their posts. But I guess it is rather charitable of Jay to let BV off the hook by dismissing him/her and allowing them to think that its because they are so much smarter. Jay should actually be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for this generosity, and even recognized for his work with the mentally handicapped.

No, you don’t get it. If you did, you’d understand that the only reason poeple stop posting on a Web site isn’t admonishment, hollow threats, or IP banning. It’s because they chose not to.

(I find it hard to believe Jay is enlisted in the U.S. Army, given his inability to correctly spell his own rank.) Don’t have a forum of your own, you will not be permitted to use ours to say your piece. Take the time to start your own forum there are plenty of free services to do this. And don’t try this BS of beginning a blog to satisfy my requirement for a valid link, I check them. Without posting regularly to it is the same as not having one at all.

Marion, have you not been reading, the idiot troll that I addressed made assumptions about Jay’s service and called me a lier. And I’m only allowing your comment to stay so that I may point out that you obviously cannot read.
Campers, I rarely pay attention to the comments here. My reasoning is that most of those with opposing view points are just trolling to make trouble. These people are so ignorant and weak minded that they believe everything that their socialist indoctrination tells them to. The only reason I am paying attention here is because it was brought to my attention of this spamming idiot.
