ACLU Calls Christmas Defenders Well Organised Extremists

Posted on December 11, 2005

SEE UPDATE HERE!

This week, Fran Quigley, head of the ACLU in Indiana, hit back with an editorial entitled: “How the ACLU didn’t steal Christmas.”

He said the group was being demonised by well-organised “extremists” whose real agenda was to crush religious diversity, “and make a few bucks in the process”.

“Nowhere in the Sermon on the Mount did Jesus Christ ask that we celebrate his birth with narrow-mindedness and intolerance, especially for those who are already marginalised and persecuted,” he wrote.

He said the ACLU’s mission for justice saw it work hard to protect the rights of free religious expression for all people, including Christians.Source

This is laughable, the ACLU created the current environment of politically correct Christmas, through years of attacking small town nativity scenes. Now they are crying that they have been demonized? They have done this to themselves, and the majority in America are speaking out against it. And they turn around and call the groups, I suppose like The Alliance Defense Fund, that oppose them “extremists”? And isn’t it interesting how they start quoting scripture when it suits them?

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! An extremist would be a group that defends organizations like NAMBLA. An extremist would be an organization that work with groups having known terrorist ties like CAIR. An extremist would be a group that advocates completely open borders. Extremism is advocating the legalization of child porn distribution. Most Americans would say that defending America’s enemies is extreme.

So organizations that want inform America that they don’t have to fear a lawsuit, and that they have certain rights in expressing Merry Christmas are not extremists. There may be some out there that are just out to make a buck off of it, but that isn’t extremism, its capitalism. Capitalism is done by many groups during the Christmas season, and its not extremism. If there were ever a well organised extremist group, that would be the ACLU.

Uh, when I think of a religious extremist, I usually think of a suicide bomber or a dude with a scimitar cutting off a kid’s ear for listening to a Michael Jackson CD. I’ve never figured out what the ACLU has to do with the “war on Christmas”, since the decision to say “Happy Holidays” was made by department store suits, not them.

Not to mention that, as a general principle, I don’t tell people “Merry Christmas” when it is not, in fact, Christmas. Ditto for St. Patrick’s Day, or a friend’s birthday; I’d feel kinda odd saying it every day for a month. Maybe that’s just me. But this “war on Christmas” certainly seems like a most pathetic form of persecution. I’m sure the Christians thrown to the lion pits in ancient Rome wish that their biggest risk was hearing the wrong phrase at the checkout counter. Again, though… maybe that’s just me.

Well here its goes again. The old intollerance bullcrap argument. Lets see, they BAN religious expression by Christians, not promote them, and they call US intollerant?? Their hypocracy knows no bounds.

In fact, there are too many places today where people are maimed or killed for being Christians. How you can act like an imagined “war on Christmas” is worse than a very real war on Christianity is beyond me.

Well, ok, the fact that it’s a lot easier to whine about how seeing Frosty instead of Santa is an insult than it is to go to Egypt or the Phillipines and get branded with a cross. Persecution, yeah right. You “Christians” wouldn’t last five minutes in a country where people really do hate you. And the greatest irony of all is that the only reason you don’t have to deal with it is the Constitution, and you act like the ACLU is evil for preserving this document!

Those ACLU Nazi-lovers wouldn’t last 5 minutes in Egypt or the Philippines. The local theocrats would saw their heads right off, so don’t act like America’s a horrible place just because we want to preserve Christmas in this country. The whole reason the Christians in those countries get treated the way they do is they’ve been letting the Muslims walk all over them for centuries- just like the ACLU wants to let the Muslims do right here in America.

I just don’t understand why people can’t leave Christmas alone. We’re not telling anybody else how to celebrate their holy days. It’s just pathetic how businesses and employers are so terrified of lawsuits that they’re removing all mention of the word “Christmas”. It’s a crying shame that they’re being intimidated like this.

I don’t understand why Jesus is so feared by anyone. He is love and I don’t see any other “god” as being love. Christmas is about Jesus and most people in the U.S. still celebrate it. I don’t celebrate Halloween because it celebrate evil. October 31 is a day I celebrate as a day God has made. No one forces anyone to celebrate any “holiday” if they choose not to. It’s Jesus who is hated and anyone who associates with him. I’ll take being hated for him, thank you.

I guess a majority of the country is extremist then, by the ACLU’s reasoning.

The ACLU is so far to the left that even people in the middle seem like extremists to them. Pretty much anyone to the right of Michael Moore is too conservative for the ACLU. But as far as they’re concerned, the Nazis and Al Qaeda are decent enough people.

Give me a break. Who has sued a business for mentioning the word “Christmas”? I want to see this case. You clearly know which one it is so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding it. Heck, there’s probably many – it’s a war, after all.

  12. MaryC on December 13th, 2005 8:44 pm

I didn’t say that businesses have been sued, but do you honestly think that it’ll never happen? Just look at how acceptable it’s become to mock Christianity in the last 20 years. Why is it acceptable all of a sudden to tell Christians that their celebrations could offend people? Where are we going to be 20 years from now?

Could it be that to be a “well organized extremists” simply means being a good American?

I am so disturbed by all the things that go on in our country these days.
I see young adults burning the flag in protest, no patriotism what so ever, wanting to take In God we trust off our money, and now Christ out of Christmas, Read your history books folks, Thanksgiving was a Christian holiday too….why not put a stop to that…That was a day that the pilgrims set aside to Thank God for bringing them safely to a new world and helping them to survive….How can the people of this country expect God to keep blessing us and taking care of us…. if we take him out of our lives…Come on people our country was based on the belief in God… you think people would realize that if they put God back on top where he belongs maybe the scum of our country might learn something and maybe then we could all live in PEACE.
