Pomona Limits Sex Offenders
Posted on November 22, 2005
UPDATE:
The city council in Pomona knows it is treading on new ground, as evidenced by these quotes from the Daily Bulletin:
“Council members unanimously approved the ordinance — reportedly unlike any other in the state — with Councilman Elliott Rothman absent. Still, council members had concerns that it may not withstand legal challenges, and agreed 4-1 to hire an attorney to examine its legal merits. “We’re going to be walking into a buzzsaw,” Councilwoman Paula Lantz said. “I really don’t think we have the strength in this ordinance to do what we want. “
They had better hire a damned good attorney. How long before the ACLU decides that these sex offenders are more important than the children of that community? Given that it is about 1:30 A.M. PST when this is written, I give it eight hours or so.
This is breaking news from friends on the scene. The city of Pomona, CA. has voted to limit registered sex offenders to one per single family residence.
In other words, Pomona has just effectively outlawed the increasingly popular “halfway houses” that the state has been slipping into local communities without notice for the last few years.
One of the groups fighting against these group homes is MASPAL, or Mothers Against Sexual Predators At Large.
