Two Year Old, Kelsey Briggs, Beaten to Death By Step Father
Posted on November 18, 2005
I was asked to help spread the word on this, and how could I not? The story is absolutely heartbreaking.
Michael Porter was arrested Thursday for the death of his two year old stepdaughter. He is accused of striking the little girl in the abdomen earlier in the week causing blunt force trauma and inflicting deadly wounds.
The little girl was described as having significant bleeding in her intestines and bruising on her ribs, the front of her chest, side and back. Records indicate that she had bruises in other areas of her body and medical examiners believe she suffered from possible kneeing, punching or squeezing.
Kelsey Smith Briggs dies hours before her father was due to return from serving in Iraq.
Port has recently filed divorce papers on Rae dawn Porter, the little girls mother.
The bond has been set for $1 million, after he plead not guilty in court Friday morning to charges that he killed the toddler, Kelsey Briggs. The judge in the case has issued a gag order for everyone in the case.
Lost in Lima Ohio will keep everyone updated. She has been contacted by the family, and provides us with ways to help.

The three most deadly words for a child (Ldotters know this one by heart — wait for it):
MOMMY’S NEW BOYFRIEND
Too bad the courts will not let the father administer justice.
The only good thing is the man will never have a seconds peace in prison. So he will either be in solitary all the time or some very large person will show him what that baby girl felt.
Why don’t we just fry pedophiles and child killers. Grow some big ones and rid ourselves of these bastards?
Poor girl. I can’t begin to tell you how pissed I am. Ruined my whole day.
Words cannot describe the anger and anguish I feel for this girl and her father. While this man is risking his life to protect us, no one was protecting his loved one. Where was her mother?
I am sick to death of seeing tragedy like this one every day. When will our nation wake up and see that our children are in trouble? What will it take for us as a people to hold ALL of those accountable for crimes such as these. Those who allowed this precious child back into that home should be required to spend the rest of their lives in a cell next to the piece of garbage that took her innocent life. If we want our children raised to take responsibility for their actions, then we, as adults, need to take responsibility for ours.
I am Kelsey Briggs Grandmother and I want to thank you for your efforts in getting this story out. We cannot tell you how much we have been touched by people we have never met. Kelsey was adored by all of our family, but none like her father. She loved him deeply as well and it breaks my heart that she probably did not know what “Daddy’s a soldier” really meant. She had to wonder why she no longer had contact with those who made her feel safe. Kelsey was our little soldier, who endured a bigger war than we will ever know. Thank you to each and everyone for their prayers and compassion for my son and our family. Please help us to get the national attention this story deserves. Not because we want the spotlight, but because we believe our state will not make the changes needed to save another child if the nation is not looking on. Child abuse is on the rise in Oklahoma and we need your help to save our innocent children from this crime. Thank you again, Kathie Briggs
I my self agree with what is being said about this case the person responsable should be held accoutable for it but as it stands they have the wrong person in this case Mike Poter was at work all day that day Kelsey died Raye Dawn was home all day with her and she is allready been charged with abuse and or failing to protect her child we that are close to this case as i em all know the abuse started way befor Mike ever come into the picture. Kathy and Lance my heart goes out to you all I think we all need to get together and see that justice is done for Kelsey. To Kelsey I miss you very much coming in to my work and wanting to play with all the buttons on my computer im sorry this happened to you sweety.
OUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH THE FAMILY SHE IS A VERY BEAUTIFUL LITTLE GIRL GOD BLESS HER FATHER GOD WILL REWARD YOU IN THE END YOU WILL SEE YOUR LITTLE ANGEL AGAIN GOD WILL BLESS YOU FOR ALL YOU HAVE DONE FOR THIS COUNTRY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
What a tragic story. I have felt all along there is more to this story than Justa stepfather abusing a child. He may be one easy to point the finger to. Hopefully the mother is interviewed, and questioned. So many injuries. Could she enjoy hurting her daughter for sympathy for herself? Could she inserted something into the vaginal area to make it look like sexual abuse? There seem to be pieces to this puzzle missing–I hope they are found. As a former foster parents I witnessed to many children given back to a parent at the order of the Judge. These judges do not listen to recommendations. We adopted two children and the heartache we went thru. We had wonderful Child Welfare Social Workers with the Dept. of Human Services. They were very knowledgeable. The judges were not very willing to always listen to recommendations. Listen Judges, do your homework. Do the homework on this case before accusations.
I believe you’re on the right track Linda. I’ve been watching this case since it happened and have talked to some of Mike’s friends and family. With everything that I have found, read, the deposition and the ME report, I think the answer to everyone’s question about where the mother was is, the mother is the one that killed this little girl. I think the DA has figured it out, he’s just waiting for good evidence so he can hold her and convict her.
please do something with that baby’s mother – rae dawn. the many injuries and the time line points directly to her. do something!
Every time I see that the father was in Iraq, my stomach turns! I think it’s about time he steps up and tells the truth about where he was, if for no other reason, than for respect for the soldiers who are ACTUALLY fighting for our country. There have been so many lies surrounding this case that have been published all over the Internet. I don’t even live in Oklahoma, yet I have been able to find discrepencies in this case just by searching through public records. Why don’t people bother to educate themselves on facts before they make accusations or assumptions of guilt? I’m not sure if the mother is guilty since she has been silent, but I know for sure that the father is not telling the truth!
I would like to start by saying any one who would harm a child deserves alot more than time locked away. I have 2 kids of my own and youd have to be one sick mother f—– to do this to someone so inocent. I know the lord will take care of her and will put punishment on those who put her there.
