Pat Buchanan Vs. Nadine Strossen of the ACLU

Although he agreed that the executive branch is doing some things wrong, Conservative icon Pat Buchanan said at a debate that drew hundreds of students Monday night that some civil liberties could be compromised for the sake of national security.
“Under the ACLU plan, we would have no right to squeeze terrorists for more information to prevent future occurrences,” he said in response to ACLU president Nadine Strossen Monday night in Hodgson Hall.
Both Buchanan and Strossen argued over the relationship between civil liberties and national security in a post-Sept. 11 world.
Strossen addressed the USA Patriot Act, which she deemed a violation of Civil Liberties that was ineffective in enhancing national security.
“The government has exploited our fears about terrorism,” she said.
She argued that liberals were not the only people opposed to the act.
“Many conservative icons agree with the ACLU,” she said.“The policies violate conservative ideals.”
Strossen pointed to the ability of the FBI to to seize private records without the approval of citizens.
She also criticized Congress for failing to use the appropriate oversight to limit the power of agencies such as the FBI.
Buchanan displayed his difference concerning appropriate measures that can be used to extract information from terrorists.
“If people are coming to kill innocent members of our family, they don’t deserve the same treatment as soldiers of war,” he said.
Buchanan also extended on his arguments by pointing to extreme use of executive power throughout the history of the United States.
Abraham Lincoln locked up 15,000 people without a trial, he said.
“The ACLU would have called for his impeachment,” Buchanan said.
Apparantly it drew a huge crowd to hear these two icons debate. Wish I could have heard it.

Buchanan is one of the most brilliant fire spewers conservatives have. Indeed, I suspect that he is the only truly consistent conservative to ever bear the label, from immigration to terrorism. I especially love his comment on Lincoln’s impeachment.
Pat Buchanan is not a conservative because he is an ultra conservative and some of his stuff is way overboard, however I do agree with him on this. That ACLU lesbian is complaining that the FBI can seize records. Who cares, if nothing is wrong with the records there is nothing they can do, if they find some crimininal or terrorist activity, Hooray Hooray Hooray.
As a Jew, and realizing that Pat Buchanan a) wants U.S. aid to the Jewish state stopped immediately; and b) called Adolph Hitler “an individual of great courage,” I cannot take ANYTHING he says seriously.
There’s an asylum for the criminally insane in Washington, D.C. called St. Elizabeth’s, or “St. E’s” for short. I think that’s where Mark David Chapman – the guy who gunned down John Lennon in NYC in 1980 – resides.
In my opinion, that’s where Pat Buchanan belongs.
Mr Weir you are right Pat Buchanan but I think the point of the post is that the ACLU could give a damn less about the safety of the country. So as it said in the Commercial WHERE,S THE BEEF that you are refering to as the
the ACLU as what this site is about. Nuts with Pat Buckbanana.
