Next Nominee Will Be Excellent
Cross-posted from Right on the Right:
If the information being put out is correct, the next Supreme Court nominee will be an excellent strict constructionist. According to the Chicago Tribune, the administration has narrowed it down to Samuel Alito and Michael Luttig, two very excellent judges that sit on Federal Appeals Courts.
BUSH TO NOMINATE ALITO OR LUTTIG FOR SCOTUS
WASHINGTON – Rebounding from the failed nomination of Harriet Miers to the Supreme Court, President Bush is poised to select between two of the nation’s leading conservative federal appeals court judges – both experienced jurists with deep backgrounds in constitutional law – for what promises to be a bruising Senate confirmation battle.
With an announcement expected Sunday or Monday, administration officials have narrowed the focus to Judges Samuel Alito of New Jersey and Michael Luttig of Virginia, sources involved in the process said. Both have sterling legal qualifications and solid conservative credentials, and both would set off an explosive fight with Senate Democrats, who are demanding a more moderate nominee to replace Justice Sandra Day O’Connor.
Finally the war for confirmation will happen. I, among other conservatives, have been wanting a fight, because it gives America the opportunity to see how combative the left can be. The MSM will probably slam the nominee, but I am sure Americans will see the savagry of the left. We will finally have a nominee who is a known constructionist, and will not legislate from the bench based on precidence or public opinion, but rather will rule based on the text of the United States Constitution.
While I like Luttig slightly more, mainly because I know more about him and he is an excellent speaker and writer, all the information I have seen on Alito makes him seem like an equally qualified and judicially-correct choice. If Bush nominates either of these men, he will have done the nation a great favor, by returning constitutional balance to the court.
From what they’re saying online and around the blogasphere, it looks like Alito will probably be the nominee, although Luttig is still in consideration. Powerline is saying that they’ve heard the nominee will be Alito.
