The ACLU’s Goal of Undermining Our Military

Posted on October 1, 2005

The ACLU is at it again. (When are they not?) The NYCLU, New York’s affiliate of the ACLU, feels that military recruitment tactics at schools are “unwanted, abusive and intrusive.” As pointed out by Jon Bodner at Live Journal, the irony is profound in that the ACLU also feels that panhandlers have the right to… panhandle (which to my experience has been rather unwanted, abusive and intrusive).

More to the point: this move by the NYCLU to challenge military recruitment in schools is based only on some imagined abuses by the military of provisions in the No Child Left Behind Act. From the NYCLU link above:

The beginning of a new school year marks the opening of another season of military recruiting of high school students as the military exercises the authority it gained under little-known provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act.

Such provision have been interpreted as a requirement that school authorities turn over student contact lists to the military and afford its recruiters unprecedented access to students in school.

The charges, however, are hollow. As noted by Pundits My *ss:

The New York City Department of Education cannot document any abuses. Margie Feinberg, of the department’s public affairs office said the department has “not heard of any specific instances” of complaints from students. Individual schools would handle complaints about recruiters.” None of these has been turned up. Interviewed by the New York Sun, NYCLU spokeswomen Donna Lieberman provided much invective and few facts.

Gribbit at Conservative Angst reminds us that this anti-military recruitment move by the ACLU seems right in step with the over-arching aims of the ACLU’s co-founder, Roger Baldwin:

“I am for socialism, disarmament, and, ultimately, for abolishing the state itself… I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and the sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal.”

This effort to twist otherwise useful provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act into some indictment of military recruiters with no evidence of wrongdoing is simply another effort by the ACLU and its affiliates to warp laws and misreadings thereof toward their nefarious social-engineering ends. To the organization that prefers to support the rights of terrorists, pornographers, and child molesters over Americans like you and me, let’s send a message, loud and clear. If we band together, we can stop the ACLU in its tracks.

UPDATE: Is this controversy simply to draw attention to some mythical slump in the military being able to meet its recruiting goals? Big ol’ Hat Tip to The Mudville Gazette for finding this post at Big Lizards that expertly fisks a recent AP story by Robert Burns. In short: the Army missed their mark a wee bit for their goals of enlarging its forces, whereas the Navy, Air Force, and Marines met or exceeded their goals. The stats are interesting. Big Lizards writer Dafydd concludes:

…[F]ar from the doom and gloom article in AP, it appears what is happening is that we’re trading away a large-ish number of raw recruits for a slightly smaller number of seasoned veterans: fewer boys and girls are joining up, but more men and women are returning.

Considering the intense requirements placed upon our armed forces by an urban terrorist war that will go on for many years in various countries, this seems like a very fair trade indeed.

If it’s not the ACLU trying to undermine military recruiting, its the media tryin to belittle it. Perhaps the ACLU actually does have something to fear from recruiters, if recruiting has actually been so successful of late.

It always amazes me the incredible differences (or maybe its just stupidity) of the right wing. You fear the government and yet you love the military. Hello?!?!?! IS anybody home at all in this nightmare of the right wing? How do you think the government will oppress you? We’ll I’ll give you a hint: It sure as hell isn’t social security.

    THE ARMY.

These facists eat away at our budget plunging the county into an insane debt while our schools and roads fall apart. Meanwhile the army developes a close relationship with corperations (coughcoughcoughHALIBURTONcoughcoughcough)

You wait, because theres going to be a time here in america when we have NO rights at all and we are all slaves to some capitalist pig living out our misereble lives.
Of course you could argue that this has happened already. Oh well enough said.

    Burn Capitalist
    Burn the government
    Burn the military
    Here’s to ANARCHY

Someone has obviously been sipping an extraordinary brand of Kool-Aid. Thanks kindly for dropping by with your leavings. Your statements speak for themselves.

Now, scurry along, silly troll, and go lap up some of Michael Moore’s leftover grazings. Dessert is served over at KOS, I hear.

Did this guy just call me a facist? He’s lucky that he can hide behind his mommy’s computer because if he were here, I’d show him my facist fist in his anrachist face. I think I could show him a little taste of anarchy.

Moonbattery at its best — er — worst, Jay. After a rich meal, and with the right amount of red wine, it’s actually somewhat amusing. ;-)

Now, I would definitely like to see you get medieval on this chap… but would that make me, um, a fascist?

Considering the military takes an oath to DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION and doesn’t swear loyalty to any one man, then perhaps they are not as fascist as some one as pea-brained as you might believe. The armed forces are the one group that defend your rights, and apparently the right to be stoppid in your case, and prevent others from invading and permanently preventing you from wasting any more air. The military…. nevermind… the self-performed lobotomy that apparently was successful and my words are wasted on you….

Be careful of how you address your future masters, you idiot slave!

    bwahahahaha! Lobo that’s too funny.

Actually the fascists are the ones who demonize those honorable members of the military who represent our CAPITALIST system. The fascists are the ones marching in the street with Cindy Sheehan–some of whom are White Nationalists–members of the American Nazi party. Perhaps you’ve heard of them?

You see, in order to be “an imperialist power” you have to be a socialist or communist totalitarian state like Korea…or any number of other commie/nazi/leftist countries who don’t believe in Christianity or freedom OF religion–in fact, in the Sudan, there’s a Christian genocide going on at the hands of Islamofascists. Fascists don’t believe in the values we hold, so you really should re-evaluate your terminology, lefty!

But it was good for a laugh–and Lobo, that was really great.

    *Definitely* a good one, Lobo!

Geeze, “someone” really has no clue – proper anarchy would be every person thinking/doing for themselves. OK. Thinking for myself, I far prefer an orderly, lawful society which holds justice in high esteem, and properly honors and respects the men and women who defend that society.

Anyone else want to c’mon over to the orderly anarchy I propose?

    ;-)
