I suppose the new drugs are these MDMA and GHB, the latter of which I know to be the date-rape drug. That is even worse for today's young women. I attended several hip-hop clubs in the late '70's and early '80's in Manhattan, including the Funhouse. I am certain that this is comperable to these raves, as the upstairs of the Funhouse was an open-air drug store. In all fairness to the club, they threw me out for selling legal caffeine pills in the men's room one night (someone else was selling bad barbituates, and alot of people were puking). The point is that raiding the rave was a good idea. Kids die in places like this, and these places are also key drug distribution points for the "latest" drug, these days being ecstasy, I think. This problem is in another class than alcohol or tobacco, and needs proactive tactics. Had the NYPD raided the Funhouse years ago (they might have, just never when I was there), I might have gotten on the straight and narrow much sooner, but that's totally hypothetical, over 20 years later. The NYPD has cracked down on these clubs, which fits in culturally with what the Utah County Sheriff is doing. Liberal ideas can only hide harmful policies for a limited time. Allowing crime to flourish under a phony "freedom" of expression is an abomination. I'm glad to see steps taken towards it's demise. STOP the ACLU, PLEASE! This is a sad state of affairs. I thought unions were supposed to ensure that workers are in safe environments and not victims of discrimination.
